Stadium Discussion

Can this person speak in English to actually explain what any of those words mean?

she was speaking english. I think what you mean is you want her to speak in lay terms for non-construction/architect folks. if you weren't being sarcastic what she's essentially saying is:

- MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) are up next on the east deck.
- roughing in, rebar, and pour in refers to building the structure to pour concrete.
- precast are cast concrete components that have been cast at a different location and brought in. much of the seating areas are precast. swinging (on a crane)
- and more MEP getting done.

On schedule, maybe even ahead. I just may make it. ;)

On another note, Glenn and Roberto disagreed on the Sick Podcast about the opening. Glenn thinks the organization will take the extra time from the schedule change and open in July 2027 to make sure everything is perfect. Roberto thinks they'll open for the rump season in early 2027.

I get the logic of waiting to make sure everything is exactly right; you want to make a great first impression. But I'm with Roberto on this one. I'm sure it's my 30 years in the hospitality industry talking, but the way I learned business, Rule Number One when you're opening a new joint is, "Get open as soon as you can." You've already laid out to get the lights turned on. Get 'em in the door and spending.

Roberto also mentioned something about the team paying $1 million for every game at Yankee Stadium. I don't know if that number was ever confirmed, but even if it's a percentage of that, you'd much rather have the revenue at your own park if you can get it than pay someone else to use theirs.

If I remember, they said they would open in July if the season were pushed back. Now does this bridge season idea change that? Who knows, but I think the betting market is going to be on July until we hear differently. If they do change that, I bet they wait to announce it until they know the building will be ready.

This was essentially Glenn's point. It's not at all unreasonable.

But if the original target date was in March under the old schedule, and they make the target date, I can't imagine they hold off opening the doors and continue paying to play on someone else's field when we could be playing on our own.

Not to mention, Marcelo Claure is a very large man, and he likes to sell. I wouldn't want to be the guy to tell him, "Yeah, we're ready to open right now except for a couple finishing touches, but we're going to wait until July and pay the Yankees $7 million for seven games there just to make sure every last thing has a fresh coat of paint."

Hoo boy, good luck with that one.

If it truly isn't ready — guest experiences are incomplete, systems testing isn't done, that sort of thing — different story, of course. You don't want to rush it, either.

Yeah, I'm being just a weeee bit selfish. 😁

Thanks for the support, moogoo! Today is exactly one year since my first infusion in my first course of chemo. One more to go on Dec. 5 and then my second course is done. Then we'll do some scans in February and see if it worked.

If it's bad news, don't worry. I'm a pretty durable dude.

And I'm telling you right now, my last nephrology appointment is on Dec. 23, after which I'm going directly to Regal Wine and Liquor for a 3-liter Nighthawk Black Bota Box and getting hammered for Christmas weekend. It's been a long year, and I've had to be on the wagon for it all. 🍷 LOL

I wonder if the team will try to schedule four games at home in March for the short season, as there is a good chance the baseball schedule will be in flux with a potential lockout in 27 so if the team need to play somewhere else than YS or Citi field it only has to flex 3 games.

It could really be a mess. It doesn't make sense to have the stadium ready and just sitting there next to Citi Field because the team wants to open it on the Opening Day of the 34-game season. If it's ready in March, what are we doing by not opening? If it's ready, open the gates.

The season ticket agreement treats the bridge season as extra games that are not included. If those games are played at the new stadium the agreement states you're obligated to buy them at a price determined by the team 🤑. Given that I would think there's a 0% chance they dont play at the new stadium if it's ready.

Sims told media at the groundbreaking that if the calendar were to change, they would likely push the opening back to the summer because they wouldn't want to open Etihad Park 3/4 through a season". Now that kind of straddles both sides as the calendar would be pushing back, but it wouldn't be that far into a season, would be it's own, even if it's a stub season, etc.

The other consideration is the plan all along (at least according to all the Environmental Impact Statement documentation) was to open Etihad Park Spring 2027 but it wouldn't be 100%, completely done. It would effectively be done, but there would still be some "wrap-up work" remaining.

So for argument's sake, lets say they end up exactly on schedule as planned (currently a bit ahead, have to imagine with large projects like this there will be some delay somewhere, etc.), would NYCFC want to open the stadium for the stub year with some "wrap-up work" (probably would be influenced by exactly what that means) to go? Or for the 2027 season opener in the new league calendar with a completely finished stadium?

I would probably bet on the latter.
