Stadium Discussion

Looks like the entire seating bowl is in (without seats yet, of course). Looks great! It still feels so surreal even as I see pics and videos of the stadium being built. Still can't believe we'll be having a home opener there in about 16 months.

I feel the same way. Totally surreal after all this time it's finally happening. The stadium looks great. I love how close to the field all the seats are. Feels so much smaller than 25,000 seats. Yankee Stadium, which is 30,000 seats in the first two levels, is so much more expansive.

It's not the final beam, unless half of the roof on the far side isn't going to happen. But it's progressing along quite nicely.

sounds like it is the final beam. the roof on that far side probably was completed between when that other video was taken and today.

EDIT: ha nevermind? that far side looks like half a roof to me.

I'm looking online and it seems topping out is the last structurally critical beam.

I don't understand how that is relevant in this case either. Someone who knows please explain this confusion!!!

yea it's supposed to be the final structural beam, but based on the video posted, that does not look like the final structural beam. unless that whole other half of the roof is going to be built differently somehow. very strange indeed! maybe they just wanted to do it to "be on schedule". Though that would seem to go against tradition and the good vibes and luck the ceremony is supposed to bring.

One thing I noticed at the ceremony today and am pondering...Some of the planes fly low of Etihad Park. With the noise of the stadium and an overhead aircraft, would players be able to hear a referee whistle?

It's the deadline day is tomorrow and we aren't signing anyone so we need something exciting to post on social media "final beam".

It definitely appears as if there are more beams to come on that side though. Maybe they’re saying the stadium won’t get any higher than it is now? Or you’re right this is purely theatrical and there are more beams to go and they’re just doing the ceremony today because the felt like it.

full video of the ceremony? 40+ mins so seems to be. edit: all the speeches basically. plus the beam lifting and installation we've already seen
