If we brought him back after his loan, he's still on his DP contract. He'd be our 2nd DP and we only have 2 DP slots since we're using the U-22 roster model.
DP is a roster designation not a type of contract. We could simply use our allocation dollars to buy him down. He's only on a 950k contract iirc

According to the MLS roster profile, we can not buy him down using TAM/GAM. Maybe we would be able to after his extension goes into effect, but we can't do it this year looks like.

At this point, this is all just fan fiction—Magno is not coming back. As I’ve mentioned before, all signs indicate he’s happy in Brazil and didn’t enjoy MLS’s style of play, making a return highly unlikely.

So, looking at this purely from an asset management standpoint—why would CFG take the risk of bringing him back to a league where he already struggled? Strip away the NYCFC fandom and ask: What’s the actual upside?

I agree with you, but Talles and Jovan both have loans expiring in June. If we don't have another place to quickly sell or loan them, where do they go? There is a scenario in which they come back for a few months while we find their next destination.
Anything is possible, but we did the "his loan is expiring, he might be back" dance with Mitri for over two years and multiple loans, and he never returned. I think it's highly unlikely either of these guys will come back, especially after that athletic article talking about the key to success for CFG being selling players. They aren't risking a loss of value on either of those guys by bringing them back to a league where they struggled.
That's interesting. Wonder if the extension impacted anything. Obviously, I don't think he will be back either but another option is converting to the 3 DP model for half a season since we also have an open u22 spot.
I do think that NYCFC has been very good at managing these loan situations with Mitrita and Thiago Andrade, so doubt we have issues.

Are we allowed to change now that we have passed the compliance date? The way the roster rules are written it sounds like we are locked into our model choice:

Teams can switch in the summer window if they haven't used half the GAM allocated for the U-22 model.
Yeah, for example the Chicago Fire, in the league release, only took half the gam because they are telegraphing that they are going sign a 3rd DP in the summer window so they have nothing to give back.

So in theory, once we don't use our GAM or U22 slot in the first window, David Lee could spice things up and switch it over to a DP spot he doesn't fill in the second window, and all it will cost is some of our league-leading GAM pile that we don't spend!
