UCL 17/18 Knockout Rounds (Draw and Matches)

Travel into and out of Kiev is a horror show, as are accommodations.

One option under consideration for the future is holding the final outside Europe, both for purposes of logistics and widening the base of support to fight the FIFA super club competition.
This is exactly the results that would be experienced if the WC goes to Morocco (scaled up of course) because there’s a finite amount of resources (external/internal travel, accommodations, amenities, etc) for an event too big to be hosted.

As a marketing tool I get it, but for logistics? You could hardly do better for handling large amounts of people than most major european metropolises, given how incredibly simple rail and car travel is around the continent along with the mostly transparent borders. Having major events in Ukraine, however, may not be the best idea.

I think the logic is that there are probably only 5-8 countries in Europe that have the infrastructure to handle the Final, and cycling the host country through just them while freezing out the other countries is bad politics. Opening it up to major cities in other continents won't fool anyone if also done while freezing out the guppies, but the optics might be a bit more palatable.

Holy crap, from photos the Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Kiev looks like a dire place to watch a match from the seats. The pitch appears to be just absurdly far away, with an enormous running track between the crowd and the action. Especially at the goal ends.

So you’re saying a long distance between the beginning of the stands and the touch line is bad for watching soccer?
