Away - Whitecaps 09/26

This will be a tough game. Away and very far from NYC. Even worse, Whitecaps are a very good team and they just lost the Cascadia cup to the Sounders, so they will be fired up to win and get back into the shield run.

On the plus side, they do have a CCL game at Seattle on Wednesday. Not sure if they will roll out the full starting lineup, but at least we have the hope of being the more well rested team going into Saturday.

Would like to see Pirlo score a set piece, preferably directly. imagine that corner kick had gone in. our Team chickened out at that point, not enough players in the box (but i don't blame them).

How many games left to play?

Is there any chance of making the play offs?
Four left, three away then the last one at home.

There's a chance, yes, but it's a little slim and we'll need a bit of help to do it.

Lose and we're definitely out of the playoffs and having an even worse season, get a result and we're almost definitely still out of the playoffs and might have been the difference in the Red Bulls getting another trophy. There is no God.

Wow, didn't even think about it like that. Would I rather see us have a long shot at making the playoffs or see our enemy not get a shield?

I think that is a great point. Rest a few, maybe a few get knocks and niggling injuries and we stand a chance.
If not, theyre quite a fearsome force. Rivero impresses me, Manneh is a class act and the keeper is a 'shut-out specialist.'

Game will be won and lost in the midfield. It would be a mistake not to include Poku.

If they take out AJ for Poku, as an example, Pedro Morales will eat us alive.

Not only that, but they could also clinch this week:

Vancouver Whitecaps will clinch a berth in the playoffs if ...

  • Vancouver Whitecaps FC win vs. New York City FC AND
  • Real Salt Lake and San Jose Earthquakes tie on Sunday

I wouldn't remove any defensive player for Poku. I was thinking of replacing Mix with him and using Poku's strength and athleticism as a bit of an extra shield. His attributes will also give the opps more to think about. IMO.

I'd be fine with this. We all know Grababrace will start, and Lamps in his current form with Villa and Poku would be a damn good show.

According to whoscored, we are 3/20 in possession%, and Vancouver is last. At the same time, Vancouver is tied for 1st with LA on counter attacks. I think we need to let Pirlo play the possession game and keep 4 back with AJ to have any chance. Angelino / Iraola would likely expose us, so maybe we play Mena. Hopefully Allen is good to go, Saunders spoke very highly of his recent back line in the Quakes post match interview.

Enjoyed the stats, :) but what they don't show is how effective the dangerous possession is (in an attacking sense).
We do keep the ball well, and we'll need to against VWC.

Agreed - and to your original point, I think Poku!!! would make our possession more dangerous and effective than Mix would right now. Maybe start Poku and if somehow we are up by 2 at 65 put Mix in to boost the possession game and hold on for dear life.

I think we need to somehow need to make the game scrappy and lots of stoppages.
Not usually how I like my Football played, but for the greater good :p

Just some info:

According to the injury report on mlssoccer.com, Iraola has already been ruled out for Saturday night and Pedro Morales is on Vancouver's list with an undisclosed injury.

Then again, it's not like that particular source is 100% reliable.

I've been looking at that report over the course of the season, and it seems like they just show who didn't play last week and call them out. The "slightly more accurate" report comes out later in the week.
