Gilardino still being linked with no real change in story but quotes appear new...

Now I'm not as anti-China as Donald Trump but why would anyone in the Western World consider moving there ahead of New York? Not for racial reasons in the slightest but rather the massive culture differences and greater freedom emphasis. Its not like he wouldn't be well compensated in NYC.
All the Italian sources I've been seeing are saying he's only looking to go to China at this point.

I feel like we're being used as bargaining chips for older players looking to move to developping leagues.

this was cool to read! Good find bro!

Cambiasso....ahh the things id do to have him on this team.....Cambiasso, Xavi, and villa....easily the best group of Dp's out of MLS.
Of course, the real question is who are the other 8 players out there, and the 10+ on the bench.

Brovsky is one of them ;)

Wonder if it would be possible to land darlington nagbe from portland. Had a hell of a year last year. He would be awesome if we deployed a 4-3-3, with him being deployed as a striker on the left side of villa.

He has the penchant for the spectacular goal.

Back to cambiasso tho- he has stated his future is in europe. Damn it.

Brovsky of course, so who are the other 7 plus the bench is the question. Quite right.

Nagbe is great and probably a future USMNT player. But I would imagine that NYCFC might have to give up too much allocation funds or wouldn't have enough of players or draft picks to entice the Timbers. He is basically one of their top players. But a great idea nevertheless.

CJ Sapong (a real possibility in the Expansion Draft) would also be an option up top for NYC. And we already know he didn't impress ORL when he played on loan to them last year.

Here's a rumour that I'm starting: Gboly Ariyibi to NYCFC. Was with Leeds last year, but is out of contract. Sign him up and loan him to another MLS team?

I'm not really starting a rumor. I just think he might be a nice squad player. Apparently, he's a big, pacey winger born in the US, so no foreign slot used.

Hi Midas,
How does the loan system work in the US ?
My understanding was the squads were picked through a draft, and you get players that way.

Not for sure about it, but I think he would have to be signed by MLS, then (effectively, concurrently) subject to allocation (a process akin to a one-off draft). The thing is, there's almost no transparency before the fact on these situations, so it's usually determined before the signing for which team MLS is signing the player.

From what is reported, it sounds like the interested team owners and the commissioner get on a conference call and sort it out, making up "rules" or "policies" as they go. If it will add a decent player to the league, they'll step all over their own rules to sort out a path for a player to get to the particular team.

It's the lack of transparency of this non-DP process that kept Mix from signing with Portland. He apparently really liked the team and staff, but he was uncomfortable that he would be owned by the league rather than Portland Timbers FC.

When a MLS team agrees to loan in a player the loaned-in-player's wages becomes the basis of their salary cap hit.

Drafts are essentially assigning players rights that are already owned or will be owned by MLS.

The only other option I can think of is individual MLS clubs loaning their players to other MLS clubs. A good example of this in 2014 is Colorado loaning Cascio to Houston for the season.
