2017 Roster Discussion

Am I out of order saying Altidore and Bradley belong on our USMNT B team?
No. They suck balls. It's a double edged sword for Bradley to be called up. Toronto is better without him, so he hurts people like you and me twice. Making TFC better and the US worse.

I swear, he's so damn garbage. I'm absolutely sick of watching him play.

Everyone who trashes Mix at any point should watch what Mix did to Bradley last year at YS. Utter, complete domination.

I'm so-so on Altidore. He's incredibly strong and can be fantastic at finishing. Catching him in-form and he produces. The problem I have with him, is that we have a bunch of quality young strikers and other attacking options that I don't think fit very well with him.

IMO, Jozy is a guy that I would like on our bench as an option if we are chasing a goal late and need to change things up a bit.

Totally agree on Bradley though.

Agree on Altidore. He's got a great skill set (when healthy) that can benefit the team, but not as the primary striker to build around; none of the other strikers attributes mesh well with his abilities. Like you said, when chasing a goal, he's the guy to throw on to be a target while everybody else plays the technical game (much like we threw Okoli on last game).

Bradley isn't fluid enough. His best stretch was while playing for Roma, and he hit a pretty high standard, but they don't play fluid attacking, total football, whereas our younger midfielders definitely do. To have one guy be an anchor point in the MF limits what the others can do. It's part of why Mix took Bradley to the wood shed last year and got so far under his skin that Bradley started to get overly physical: Mix dragged him out of position when he had the ball and made Bradley chase, and every time Bradley received it, Mix was on top of him badgering like a Jack Russel. It was like Bradley couldn't help himself to go looking for space to operate, and that's a killer on the MNT level.

You nailed it. At some point, Bradley got into his own head about how he couldn't handle being pressured. That just compounded the problem.

And he's not a ball winner, so he's really just a circulator who's good for 2-3 gutpunch giveaways per game. Doesn't work on the international level.

My take on Bradley is he might be the best guy for the team, there might be someone better. But for some reason, just like Altidore, JK and now Bruce, does not give anyone else a run out with the full team. Every time they try someone else in their spots it is with no regular starters, so they look like shit and you go right back to Bradley as the lock down sharpied in started at CDM. Cameron should get a shot at the very least in my opinion. Altidore being ahead of Bobby Wood is the biggest joke on earth. Altidore is good against MLS and the CONCACAF minnows. He just isnt good enough against the better teams. In any role. He should be our gold cup superstar

Altidore is better than Wood right now. When he's healthy, he's solid for us, and has been for a few years.

Cameron might be better than Bradley (hard to tell). But we need Cameron more at CB. That is to say, even if Cameron is better than Bradley, he is more better than the CB that would play if Cameron moves forward.

1. Why are we having this discussion here?
2. I don't think this

is true. Too bad we don't ever get to find out.

I'd take a triangle of Brooks, Gonzalez and Cameron, over Brooks, Cameron, Bradley. A good CDM makes your CBs better. Bradley's turnovers make the CBs tired.

Bradley tries to do too much at t eh position, for TO and for USA. Get t he ball to the next level of MFs and be done with it. He's always pushing too high, and he's not good enough in possession to do that. I'll bet t hats why it feels like we have no CMs in the pool, because (just like Pirlo does to Maxi when he's on the field) Bradley skips the CMs trying to make the kiler pass to the forwards. Works in MLS not in int'l.

Just my opinion, though.

Why can't everyone just agree he's shit?

We can name 10 reasons.

Further, he "pushes too high" because he drops too deep. When he picks the ball up standing next to the goalkeeper, he needs a midfielder to pass to. Guess who that's supposed to be? The bald bastard standing next to the bald bastard.

15 minutes into Netflix and chill and he starts giving you this look:

Pirlo on the bench or $150K in savings?

Each MLS Club shall be allotted two Designated Player slots. Clubs with two Designated Players may add a third Designated Player by paying $150,000 to the league which shall be split among clubs with two or fewer occupied Designated Player slots for use as General Allocation Money the following MLS Season. Clubs must pay the $150,000 fee every year in which a third Designated Player spot is occupied on the club's roster.

Pretty sure that's a luxury tax (in real $) from NYCFC and not TAM/GAM being paid. The receiving teams get it as GAM.

Give me the Bradley from Roma, he hit his peak then. At his peak at Roma Bradley's stats were similar to De Rossi's at 1/5th the cost. But then Zeman got fired and Nainggolan was brought in and Roma cut bait.

Bradley has not been the same since he's been at Toronto. Can't play the same way under pressure and gives the ball away too often. This is coming from a Bradley fan.

Yeah, it's straight up cash we're paying for the 3rd DP spot. I'd rather have the GAM with 2 DPs than Pirlo, or just another DP.
If we were to get rid of Pirlo and only have 2 DPs, that would leave 12 MLS teams using 3 DPs and 10 with 2 or less. Meaning 12 * 150,000 / 10 to net us $180,000 in GAM for not having a third DP.
