The RFEI is from November 2016. That's just for "ideas". That is still open. After they close that, they then have to open a formal RFP and award the site. That all would take 5-6 months at a minimum.
If there’s no formal RFP then somebody really fcked up with the leak, or there’s more to this like an iceberg, because it’s now all over as a big soccer news story. That’s kinda hard to roll back.

Maybe the club can see the writing on the wall and consider this site dead? They then leaked it in order to show that they have things going on behind the scenes.

I mean, I think the general view of this is positive, at least. Most people are saying this is a great site, etc. It can't hurt, but it does let everyone else know what they're up against.

My guess is they wanted it out there to start the process so they don't get pigeonholed into a bad Willets Point deal. It seems like this RFEI has just been sitting there waiting for someone to do something.

Also, contrary to what the Village Voice people are saying, there aren't that many uses for a plot of land that will require 100-200 million in upfront costs with a cap on revenues. There simply aren't, even with the low lease payment, so I'm sort of dubious there will be a lot of competition for the site (maybe I'm really wrong on that belief though).

Because NYCFC should definitely make plans that involve a NY professional rugby team not only existing in 2022, but being able to cost-effectively occupy a 26,000 person stadium.

Lol I mean, it just sounds like it would happen. Their colors are even the same as ours.

You're going to have to rephrase this. I read this the first several times thinking you were talking about these guys.

Maybe the team leaked this to repair the hurt feelings of those excluded from the training center ribbon-cutting. Why worry about Orangeburg, when you may get a second bite at the apple at the Yards in '22?
