NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

We should get a Mexican.... The stadium would fill up
I’m not necessarily certain that’s true. Can’t really look at LAFC, since they are starting with Vela, but LAG didn’t receive any bump adding either of the dos Santos brothers and Cubo didn’t seem to draw much in Houston.

I think the only Mexican that may be able to draw at that level would be Chicharito and he’s already made it clear that he thinks this league is a piece of shit

Guardado, Herrera, Lyun, and Ochoa would have a similar effect as Vela but NYC's Mexican community isn't even that big. If you want a crowd of Latin Americans bring in Paulo Guerrero, Enner Valencia, or Juan Cuadrado.

Edit: I'm wrong NYC has a way bigger Mexican population than I realized,

People travel much further to see a national team game than they will on a regular basis for a club game.

That said I agree there are plenty of Mexican fans in the area but I just don't think many are looking to follow an MLS club regardless of what Mexican stars a team signs. Liga mx games are easily accessible here in the US so many Mexican fans have no reason to pick up an MLS club.

Galaxy saw no bump from adding the dos Santos brothers.

Anecdotally, there were quite a few people in my section at the opener there to see them, cheering for them and not wearing any Galaxy gear. And the opener drew 2,000 more than last year.
Yup I saw a good amount of El Tri jerseys that day.

I'm not interested in bringing in players for the sake of selling seats. That doesn't last and always seems like a lazy move. I think you'll lose more fans in the end trying to bait people to come based on ethnicity. If we have to rely on that, then we are in trouble. I guess they need to try something though cause NYC doesn't seem to be getting all wrapped up with this team.

I actually think we are past that stage now.

Can I also point out that we had nearly 24,000 fans today and nearly 26,000 fans two weeks ago -- and those were two of the first nice-weather game days of the year. Maybe we've made too much of the attendance issues? If this team averages 25,000 the rest of the year, that's very good attendance.

You really think there were 24k there yesterday? The sections did not look like they were filled up.

Last year through 8 games they averaged 22,559. This year it is 22,710. Close enough to be statistical noise and at least up not down. Last year they ended a bit lower but that includes Hartford and Citi Field. Excluding those the season average was 23,278. I would expect this year to be better based solely on having 2 RB games left. There is a decent chance the last game gets moved again. In Years 1 and 2 the average was slightly above 29k and 27k in order.

OTOH, I just checked and 4 of the remaining 9 games are Wednesday night, including one of the RB games. so, I'm making no predictions.

There are no-shows at every sports event in America, and there have been no-shows at every NYCFC game in history. The number is the number.

I know the average is low right now, my point is that as the weather has improved, so has the attendance. No reason to think that won't continue. I am interested in how the Wednesday games end up looking, hopefully in the summer they'll be better than that lightly-attended April game.
