2018 Roster Discussion

Oh, I won’t believe it until I actually see something concrete.

To me it seems out of character for him (but I also don’t “know him”) and I find it hard to believe he would also disrespect Dome like that.

I’m not planning any Villa effigy, was just saying IF it was true, (and that’s a big IF) it would be very disappointing

sure, but we are no where near even close to that. this is still " he heard from other guy who heard from other guy" phase , not something to even get worked up for.

man if this is just BS and hits stuff like reddit and massively retweeted in twitter then it becomes "something" then millions of people asking about something that was never a thing to begin just for clicks on a podcast

That is one of the most ridiculous rumors I've ever heard in the NYCFC space -- and that's really saying something. Not a chance that's legit with Villa.

I don't know. I didn't make the initial statement. I don't know that I would entirely disagree with it.

I would say based on what he's done so far while in the league, and that includes his FMF performances, he has played like he is the best player ever to play in MLS. Not player with the best career, or the most famous, or the most dominant because he's miles above a lot of really poor players.

I welcome your disagreement. It's pretty subjective, of course. But he's rampant and easily, for me, the best player this year. So best player in what is easily the best version of MLS we've ever seen has to be in there for discussion as best MLS player ever. Again, not judging careers here.

With my criteria, I'd also put 2016 (eta: fixed the year) David Villa way up there and 15-16 Giovinco. There's an argument for Henry and obviously a few Donovan and/or Keane years, too.

I don't know if makes sense to go back too far because that's hardly even comparable. Way too much has changed.

I just think it’s an odd statement so early in his career in MLS. He’s clearly not the most talented ever - not even close - and I personally am not sure he’s best this season. If it’s not talent than it’s a tough argument to make at this stage. I think there’s a decent argument that Villa is the best DP ever.

Time to table turns. Who is then?

Who is more talented than him? Henry, Donadoni, Villa, Rooney, Matthaus, Zlatan, Pirlo, Stoichkov, to name some - there are others who I think are better and who had better careers - Lampard, Beckham, Gerrard, Keane, Djorkaeff, Schweinsteiger and a bunch of guys who he’s not necessarily better than and maybe not as good like Donavon, Giovinco, Martinez, Almiron, BWP.

Those people more talented at the time they were here? I would disagree.

ETA: with almost all of them. I carved out who I thought was in contention, although not comprehensively.

Almiron and Martinez can’t touch Vela.

BWP? Lol. Not a chance.

BWP is great at getting the ball in dangerous spots. In scoring goals, that is half the battle - more than half. And it is a skill that is woefully under appreciated by fans.

What he was doing taking that penalty is another question. His poor performance on penalties is well established. He hasn’t even taken them for NJ in a while. I am sure the Moss brothers were like “No! Tata! What the Fuck??? Don’t make my boy embarrass himself!”

They should just call it that.

NYCFC Nation Presents: The Other, Shitty One, with Nick and Jordan
The worst part is, I really enjoy the original one. Last week I got excited when there was an episode I wasn't expecting. Traveling back to the city early, early Wednesday morning after way too much work the previous two days. Have a long drive from EWR out to Long Island, gonna listen to this hour and a half podcast, gonna be a good start. Little did I know it was one of those where they decide to bring Nick and Jordan in with everyone else. Immediately deleted.

But hasn't everyone here been saying IF this is true?

I don't see anyone here outright saying fuck off villa and taking this rumor as truth.

i think its just people wanting to jump to conclusions before it even happens. id say fuck villa if he goes to ATL or NJRB but i still wont even say i will do it just based on a comment made on a podcast of a rumor they heard.
