How many STH perks have they gotten right since the beginning? Not really sure of any, besides the recent traveling price ticket, that come to mind, so not surprised by this.
Why is it ridiculous? Do English teams give FA Cup tickets away for free? This isn't an exhibition; if you want to watch a professional team play soccer, even at a college field, it's perfectly acceptable to charge. Now, I would say you should get reduced prices for this game, but I don't think it's out of bounds for them to charge for a competitive tournament.
I think the gesture of good Will would help them a bit with the optics since:
A: they’re losing STH from season to season like water in a colander and attendance is down.
B: this is a secondary competition to the MLS schedule.
C: it’s at a different venue that’s not easy for most to get to.
D: it’s televised on a paid-subscription service and not the regular Yankees network.
E: they’re losing STH so maybe do something nice for the ones that have stuck with them.

It would be nice if they did. But if you're expecting them to do something like that, you're going to be waiting a while.
I don’t expect them do anything competently.
Checked on the CityMapper app, which I don’t think takes into account traffic. But it says 48 minutes from the 51st and Lexington E train stop to Belson Stadium on a Wednesday, to get there at 6:30 PM.

It's better than them making you buy US Open Cup tickets before the season, and now you're stuck with tickets you don't want.
No one's forcing you to go to this game, but the team has every right to charge prices for it. Hopefully the prices are cheap.
If they gave all season ticket holders tickets to this event, and say 10,000 show up...well that won't fit Belson. And this won't draw 10,000 people due to location constraints and scheduling. So they might as well sell them at $5, $10 to people that want to go.
I’m a big proponent of queens and Brooklyn succeeding from NY with Nassau and Suffolk. But the game is in Hillcrest, Queens, which no one calls Long Island. That’s NYC.
Alternatively, they can give City members the opportunity to get free tickets online until they run out.
Belson holds ~2100 people so we're talking about $20-30k in revenue in the extraordinarily unlikely situation that they sell out vs finally generating some Goodwill with the customers and possibly generating more than enough incremental concession revenue to offset that piddling amount.
1. You’d have to allocate a few hundred tickets to NC fans.
2. If it’s free demand will increase and you’ll have plenty of people complaining they didn’t get tickets.
I'm also guessing that considering the location, the club is hoping to get non-season ticket holders to the game. Try to maximize exposure to some fans (especially college students) that haven't yet been to a NYCFC match before.
Only negative is that a lot of students have gone home/graduated. Unfortunately it appears too late to give access to a larger group of new fans (college kids) due to the date of the game.

lol nah, i dont want to be charged an extra 20 bucks on my season ticket package ( to compensate for the "free US open ticket") for a game i most likely wont attend and wont get it back
