Now if the concept turned into something more like this from the (2008?) Olympics in Beijing, for sure we could call our stadium the pigeon nest and the supporters section the Coop

I think they SHOULD go big with a design like this. it is NYC after all and it will be the crown jewel of soccer venues in the north east and has a chance to be the crown jewel stadium of MLS.

but - i think it would probably cost close to 2 billion to do something like that olympic stadium here in NYC. so, sadly, i think we'll get something pretty generic with bits of flare.

Since these stadium designs aren't final, It's leaves room to wonder what the final design will look like. If it looks like this I would be a ok with that.

I was wondering the same thing -- with everything just labeled as a concept, how close are the concepts to the actual stadiums built?

They can be very different. This looks like one of those generic concepts, something which fits and has a couple key elements. But the ultimate design may or may not look anything like it.

I think the rest of the development, meaning the residential units, are probably really close to what they're actually intending to build. There are a lot of very detailed conceptual drawings. But the fact nothing was unveiled today tells me the design hasn't been done yet, probably because the architects needed to know the exact location.

the one thing i think we can gleam form the concepts is the shape of the stadium. We know the footprint it needs to fit so maybe it could look like that shape. Also the partners really trend to lean on populous so they might be brought in.

Kenny told us just this week not to rely on the specifics in the renderings because they're not actual yet.

I'm almost certain they'll be the architects. And they're good.

I learned a few things while covering the GlobalFoundries Fab 8 project in Malta, N.Y. over a decade ago. One of them was how much the footprint affects the ultimate design. In GF's case, the original conceptual drawings were just supposed to give the Town Board an idea of the scale of the project and a general idea what it would look like. The lot was supposed to be on the east side of Luther Forest.

As it turned out, the plant had to be built on the west side due to the geography and the need for extensive water supply. And that meant orienting the building at a different angle to the Sun, which led to some other changes.

The final renderings were part of the zoning application, and those were the ones which looked like the facility they ultimately built. They roughly looked like the original drawings. But if you put the two sets of renderings side by side, you'd think they were two different projects. Both were clearly industrial plants and they looked kind of similar. A lot of the general features were the same (form follows function). In overall appearance though, at least in terms of the external view, they were pretty dramatically different.

Oof - according to nycfc website, ulurp is going to start "Before the end of 2023" - that sounds like a long time before it "starts" lol.
Mid 2027 - late 2027 sounds like

if we open any time in 2027, i'd call it a success. the way construction goes in NYC, i wouldn't be shocked if it gets delayed to 2028 or even 2029.
