Props to Seven / I came here to post that we play like we have Alan Gordon in the box.

It’s obvious that Dome wants to play a 4-4-2 with a flexible midfield. That’s fine. We don’t have the fucking pieces for that.

Dome has made this team regress so sharply from the best team into MLS to scrapping to get points vs. a team that has 15 players and is nearly out of the playoff race. Every performance has gotten worse and worse. And don't let the "shots" fool you. We're simply not getting better chances. Everything is disjointed and the gameplans don't fit the personnel whatsoever. Dome's on a worse run than Kreis right now and it's embarrassing. Moment of sharp-thinking brilliance from Villa saves him from losing two straight games at home. I just can't believe the U-Turn this guy has done with our individual and collective performances. EVERYONE IS WORSE. Literally everyone.

If SJ cleans out Birnbaum as he should have, we win the match. After the last four days, I’m half expecting SJ to pull off his Mission Impossible mask to reveal that he’s actually Saunders.
I’ve been saying he’s average at best since last year and stopped because everyone gave me shit for it. He’s a good MLS goalie but that’s where it stops. Sad thing is I know SJ will likely be the pinnacle of goalie for us

That set piece was literally Rooney lofting a softball from the midfield. Go up and catch the damn ball SJ. Even worse is that other than that one moment, he could have sat in a lawn chair the rest of the game.

NYCFC goalkeeping has been awful during this run of games (both Stuver and SJ since he came back). It’s getting to Saunders level.

It's true. Except for how the players stepped up for the Red Bull's game, there hasn't been anything to hang on to. He seems to have no idea what to do with this team right now. It's actually pretty troubling to be honest.

Watching that crap was painful. DCU came in to pack the box and play for a mistake - and NYCFC’s tactics (play wide and cross) played right into their hands. No combination play in the middle, no play out of the back to bring DC’s defensive line forward, just the same crossing to no one. It was effing embarrassing.

At one point late in the second half NYCFC players were trying to circulate the ball and shoot and DCU must have had seven defenders inside their six yard box. No one is scoring when there are that many bodies defending that deep.

One other thing - didn’t Dome do Man City’s set pieces? They are cover your eyes awful. When you get TWELVE corners, you know, scoring on one of them might change the game. Loft a bad cross in that is easily headed out. Woof.

We should also discuss the ref. I guarantee if they play this exact same game but are in Atlanta United jerseys, the goal in the first half is not disallowed (heck, Martinez goes into players in the box harder than that and he’s just being “aggressive”) and Villa gets that penalty call. Shameful.

It felt like we were so one-dimensional in attack. Get the ball out wide, make a cross, it's headed out, we reload. Or a guy tries to take someone on one-on-one, loses the ball, we reload. There was no creativity.

And of course, seconds after Lewis comes on he creates a chance. Not a clue why he wasn't brought on sooner.

Yes it was bad finishing, but we had very few truly good chances. There were 9 SOG tonight, and Hamid made what, 3 good saves? Everything else was wasteful. I'm not sure that we're playing that well if we're not creating good chances. Granted we had so many guys absent, but the lineup we put out should have won each of these last two games. No excuses -- we had the personnel.

I was really impressed by Castellanos tonight -- he was everywhere, on the ball all night. And let's give credit to a guy who's been maligned since getting here -- Amagat was really good. He seemed to be more in the holding role ahead of Sands, and I thought he was really good.

One other thing: I'm not one for conspiracy -- I don't think MLS refs are out to get us, I just think MLS refs are incredibly awful.

But we have had a ton of calls and non-calls go against us over the last month or so. We did have one go our way today when Sands appeared to push Rooney in the box, but Villa had a stone-cold penalty there, and for it to not even go to review was a little surprising.

Even though we were at even strength, we looked like that team that goes a man up but then somehow regresses, lacks cohesion, and can’t figure out how to take advantage of the extra space and instead looks confused and discombobulated trying to effectively penetrate in the final third.

Putting in a marker now. Dome is good and y’all are overdramatic. By this time next year we won’t have any nostalgia for Patrick.

I'm with you. I think he's a good coach, and I think we'll be just fine under his stewardship. First of all, he's not going anywhere this offseason. He hasn't been perfect, but a guy with his resume deserves a longer leash than 13 games, or whatever it's been. The team didn't score these last two games because, frankly, we're missing half of our offensive talent. Medina is a huge part of what we do offensively, and ITS is our joint leading scorer. Add to that missing Herrera, and Torrent is coaching with one hand tied behind his back.

I have no nostalgia for Patrick. He ruined this season with his lies and deceit when negotiating behind the club’s back.

I also have no warmth for Dome. I don’t trust his man-management skills and he appears to just be a tinkerer of ideas. That’s not to say he isn’t smart, but I don’t think he’s a man of charisma sufficient to lead others; he strikes me as the XO who’s friendly with the guys rather than the Captain who’ll make he tough decisions. I see his players confused, stylistically void, and lacking a killer instinct around the net.

If the team keeps him around, that’s on them. And if he’s leading the league at this time next year, I’ll eat a heaping plate of cold crow. Most likely, I’m gonna feel just as unsatisfied as I do now.

Perhaps some of the more statistically-inclined on this forum can give an answer to this, but it feels like we go through a finishing slump every season. To my recollection, it is not that unusual for the club to all of a sudden forget how to finish, and we always rebound. Of course we should be able to rebound this time, as well.

Let me also say this: Maybe the bye week stops us in our tracks, and three of our last five games are on the road, but it does feel like this team is on the verge of a hot streak. The entire goal is to be hot going into the playoffs. And the way we're playing, despite a comical inability to finish these last few weeks, good things happen to teams that play the way we've been playing these last two games. If we're on the verge of getting hot, it would be happening at literally the perfect moment of the season.
