NYCFC Academy - General Discussion

Maybe someone with kids or those who know the academy system better put I don't think that our regular season is difficult. Our academy teams play an age under so U19 is actually a U17/18 team. However, we're the MLS academy in the area so player on our team are recruited to play because they want to make it in MLS. Other academies may be more local and have players that aren't MLS ambitious.

So our best games are during tournaments playing other professional academies.

MLS Academy teams are not always (and actually not usually at the younger ages) the best teams in the DA. Geography drives where a lot of players play and parents know that if their kid is top-notch they will get to where they are going.

I know some families in Westchester that declined NYCFC Academy invites for their U12-U15 kids due to the distance to the training, but some of those kids will likely end up there as juniors and seniors in high school

If (or when) the MLS Academies go residential there should be a big step-up and separation in their quality.

I'm not putting down other cities and states but New York City (area) has some of the best private schools in the nation that do offer scholarships to students playing sports. If we do go residential, we would need to have a great academic program because not all those guys are going to play pro soccer and the majority will go to college and getting into a good college and a good soccer program in the US is tough.

We're trying to cover them more but it's not exactly easy unless we have someone there. Not to mention, we're not quite sure where to draw the line on privacy given that yes they're in the academy but they're also minors.

You can read the last report from Chris M here

Ideally it'll turn into a monthly or even weekly report.

i get iy ...but i mean still in same sport in other countries these names are all thrown out there and hyped etc at least to those fans in teams know about prospects coming out of the academy.

at least the U19/ U 17 as those players if good enough can be brought to first team soon .....knowing them and waht they can do would help ....just my POV

Bold prediction: NYCFC signs 2 HG players for 2018 season. If Gio signs then make it 3.

Between Sands and those HG, the bench's talent floor gets higher and we have more players the coaches trust.

That's a very, very hot take. We'll see who Vieira calls into preseason training.

You know that a Hot Take is an immediate reaction to an actual event, right?

Mine was a bold prediction. That is all.

I wonder if Storrs, CT would be too far for NYCFC 2. Don't they have a nice facility there?

Nice. They depart on Sunday, so Saturday might be Sands' last game until after the U.S. is finished.

Interesting to note that we and Atlanta are the only two teams with two academy players on the roster. Also interesting to see a player from Toronto FC on the roster.
Atlanta has 3, Garces, Carleton and Goslin. But its still great that we have 2.
