2016 Preseason Thread

How did this one miss the cut? I think the NYCFC media people are trolling this thread at this point:

From the Crooks article regarding injuries:

"On the injured list for City, Frank Lampard is out but is probable for training next week. First round draft choice Jack Harrison has been sidelined the entire preseason and will not train until after the opener at the earliest. Jefferson Mena suffered a leg injury on the first day of preseason and has yet to resume training. RJ Allen injured his back in training and hopes to resume next week."

RJ back in a week? His Facebook post sounded much more concerning.

That's my one big complain with the club - not the stadium or the Lampard thing - it's that they don't understand NYC media market. You need to be more open.

I think it's more that the media market doesn't care as much about the injury of RJ Allen or David Villa as much as who the Giants are going to pick in the 4th round of the NFL draft. MLS is low on the pecking order. If MLS was as prioritized as the NBA or MLB, there would be a lot more information because a lot more people would be asking for it.

Another thing he mentions is that he likes Pirlo in the lone 6 role. Which pretty much solidifies the notion he will start there.
Not just that, but Vieira's not worried about Pirlo as DM because his version of the 4-3-3 requires all of the player to move more cohesively and be tighter together on the field so that Pirlo isn't left covering too much space. It's such a simple concept (not that I thought of it before reading), but something we never saw last year with movement off the ball and higher lines.

I think he's talking about tiki-take, no? If you complete short passes and move the ball up the field, all while controlling possession, the defensive side of it isn't as big of a worry.

Not sure if it's that, or more that when the ball moves forward or backward, on offense or defense, wherever the midfield moves that both the forwards and defenders are tight to them and not hanging back/opening up space for a counter.

i.e. when the midfield pushes up, the defenders are close behind to provide support and close the space that balls can be played in to. Similarly, when the ball is lost, the forwards drop and take space away and support the mids.
