2017 Roster Discussion

So my latest update:

Ronald Matarrita has interest from Germany, Portugal, France and Turkey as per his agent. I've been able to confirm interest from Hamburg, Dortmund and Galatasary. However Galatasaray haven't made an offer, they like their LB and will only pursue Matarrita if they lose him.

NYCFC want to buy out his complete transfer rights. If you want to read the nitty gritty details (math warning) you can read it here.

Ugh, really want him for one more season. I feel like he wasn't even fully utilized yet.

if he leaves we have no LB at all.

What do we know about Danny Szetela?

Rumor seems to have legs. I know he was a bright prospect at one time but had a rough go of it. Can he play a Fede Bravo role on this team? Is he better than that? I know nothing about him other than his past.

Not the answer you're looking for, but this picture has always told me everything I needed to know about Danny Szetela:

I'll post a new thread in the MLS forum for this too, but it's highly relevant here. $400k more TAM next year, bringing the total allotment to $1.2 million.

We could potentially field six players earning over $800k next year, between the three DP spots and spreading that $1.2 million TAM across three more players. And only three (not counting Mix) are already on the roster (Villa, Pirlo, Chanot).

Also makes Mix much more interesting for teams via trade or expansion draft

Great reporting, but I am not sure the math is correct. I am pretty sure the 1/3 to MLS is off the bottom, not off the top. That is, you deduct the acquisition costs, sell on fees, and sharing before MLS gets its cut. That helps the economics for NYC. Also, I suspect (but don't know for sure) that if a team has had to account for a player's acquisition costs in the salary budget, then those are not deducted when figuring out how much GAM it gets from a sale.

Actually I needed clarification myself.

The acquisition and associated fees are only deducted for designated players.

I assume we will leave him unprotected for the Expansion Draft. From what I had heard, it sounded like their most promising option to move him was within MLS. It will be interesting to see if he is drafted or not. I am positive they have tried to trade him already. I wonder if Atlanta or Minnesota has a deal in place to draft him early that allows NYCFC to pull the rest of their guys back. Similar to how we received allocation money from NER to not draft Fagundez.
