2017 Summer Signings

Remember that we need to try and gets guys who are comfortable playing out of the back, especially since they are coming in mid-season and won't have the pre-season to integrate into the system. Even though PV has been showing more tactical flexibility with the long balls, we are still primarily playing out of the back and need good passers of the ball who are comfortable under pressure. What's the point of signing someone if they can't play the system?
Did you see Tom's post?

How about we sign Bacary Sagna on a free transfer?
Is he out of contract and clubless? Money may not matter to him and an extended vacation is appealing, but $200k for 3 months of work is better than no paycheck coming in. And getting to play for PV and with Villa would have to spark some interest. Where else could he play so few games and have a chance at immediate hardware?

No contract, no club.

It's not about where we are in the table, it's about effort to improve. I agree there's a fine line between buying just to buy and trying to improve at all costs, but we also don't get that cap space back if we don't use it.

What cap space? Nobody even knows if we have any. You are making assumptions and then getting all worked up over them.

Exactly. Throwing names on a wall doesn't do it. They have to fit our system or there is no point. Mena is back in LatAm for a reason.

There seems to be a widely held belief we have $200k to work with. I don't know the source and have no idea if it's accurate, but it has become a received truth.
Somebody on twitter (one of the people writing about either the team or MLS) listed out the amount of GAM for a bunch of teams. Supposedly we had $200k per that "report". Not that it was connected, but I think it coincided with when the Dwyer trade went through.

Literally the club's social media response to transfer day is...

Kristan Dyer
Saw that, but was it ever confirmed?
Teams never make that information public.

?????
Didn't that change this year? Or are they disclosing all $$ deals except for international slots?
The amount of money exchanged in transfers is announced now. But teams don't have to make public how much they have.

NO TRANSFER ANNOUNCED PRIOR TO DEADLINE

The team can still announce a deal that was done prior to it. Meaning if a deal went through today but they want to announce it tomorrow they can.

The team can still sign players who are out of contract and make trades not involving players. Roster spots, international spots, allocation money and draft picks.

Well, how likely is that when there's not even a rumor.

And the latter part just doesnt matter for now. Sure, you could argue it tenuously does. But Occam's razor and shit.
