2018 Roster Discussion

One thing that is kind of exciting about a more advanced Ring, is his ability to turn the ball over. And perhaps we can turn it over higher up the field that will allow for some better opportunities off the counter.
Yep! Herrera was great at dispossessing players and breaking up plays, but he wasn’t as fast reversing the flow, whereas when Ring won the ball yesterday he was already flying into the attack and the forwards all started making their runs/scattering- which seemed to confuse the defenders as to if they should step up towards Ring or go with the forward.

So Ring is now an 8? Didn't we try that with Pirlo and Ring?
Erase your memory of Pirlo and the ways the team tried to protect him.

If an inverted back can help solidify the middle alongside Ofori (or another summer pickup), allowing Ring to move to #8, then it seems like a win for the team. We were always disappointed that Herrera wasn't offensive enough around the box, and now we have Ring pulling the strings with either cheeky passes, or him running through to receive, or even taking shots, which looks to be effective (it was only against Toronto) so why not mix it up? And that speed in the reversing the flow of play is murder to the opponent (just ask us about our last RB match). Alex DeRing could cause a lot of problems getting to the endline.

So when we had possession we pretty much played

Johnson
Ibeagha Ofori Callens
Ring Sweat
Maxi
Tinnerholm Berget Medina Shradi
?

The summer transfer window opens in 11 days and we've haven't been linked with anyone yet. Concerning?

So, what has been up with Chanot. The last time he played a full 90 in an MLS game was against Portland in April. Since then, he went 45 in the MLS game at the Red Bulls and 90 in the US Open Cup game. No other appearances.

We heard something vague about a personal matter. Now we hear he is “available” for selection notwithstanding that there has been no news of an injury and he did go a full 90 in the midst of all this sitting out.

I’m asking this same question too. The guy was a potential top 5 MLS CB last year and now it seems he has fallen off a cliff. I had heard that it was something really serious personally (I hope everything is ok) but is there a plan for him to come back?
