Good for him. There were some rumblings during the preseason that he may want to leave MLS because it may limit him from being called to the Peru national team if I'm remembering correctly. It begins people. Good for him. But... Why the heck is that Toronto game on a Friday night coming off an International Break.
And before anyone says Yankee Stadium and Baseball - the game is in Toronto.
Anyway, Peru's last game in on a Tuesday. Callens would have to fly Wednesday and rest Thursday.
Univision contractual obligation to air a match on Friday?Good for him. But... Why the heck is that Toronto game on a Friday night coming off an International Break.

Berhalter wants him and Weah to get time with the U23s so they can look to qualify for the Olympics. Had the same question too, but saw it in one of the expanded articles I read on espnfc.com. They would presumably be with this team if not for the Olympic qualifiers (???) coming up.Any particular reason Josh Sargent is rarely called up to the first team? Age? Managing minutes? Too much too soon? The guy just knows how to score. You'd think they'd want him getting international experience at the highest level.
Edit: this should probably be in USMNT Talk, but its to late now I suppose...
I know Berhalter wanted the MNT job, but considering the high state of the team that PV left, I can only imagine that Berhalter could have rolled in and brought the right philosophy to take advantage of our roster’s skillset and ingrained tactics. Sure he’d eventually want to tweak some things, but he’s bright enough to not ruin a good thing. If only PV had the same philosophy.
I'm assuming our guys can leave after the game on Sunday, meaning neither US player should miss a game, right?

Would be nice not to lose SJ for any games. If he does miss one though it will be interesting to see if the team is high enough on Barraza that he gets the start or if Stuver still have the GK2 spot locked down.
Given that all the games are in the US and neither of our US guys are likely to play much at all, it would be shitty for either of them to miss the Toronto game, especially SJ.Stuver has been on the bench for the past two matches. It's still Johnson, Stuver, Barraza as the depth order.
And the last USMNT vs. Chile is on Tuesday at 8 PM in Houston. Johnson will likely be on a flight Wednesday morning and back with NYCFC to train that day. Plus, Steffen is probably starting both matches and Johnson may be subbed in around the 70' or something.
