Home 05/15 - Chicago

I love the haters on here. Does your targets move every game? No rant about Grabovoy this week I suppose, so there had to be another donkey.

Great response from this team and especially Villa. I also love that Ballouchy, our highest scorer, keeps getting vilified and noted for his dumb luck. Really people. I hear there's another team in the area if you are interested

Yes Allen got a red. Not the first red in history. Didn't Facey get a red too? Who else plays RB? Mr Injured possibly deadly ailment Williams? And let's not forget that AJ got a red on the same player last Fire game.

Sure it should be better. But it could have been a ton worse. Great draw guys.

Is this in reference to me? ARe you saying you have to be a red bulls fan if you think two well struck goals makes up for the rest of Ballouchy's season?

Or maybe he's coming because we've played 10 games and this was scheduled months ago.
Could very well be. But im telling you Kreis will handle everything or he will leave eventually. Some team like tfc will give him full control of player personnel

Security was definitely doubled around the supporters sections. There were a ton of cops around them too and I saw a ton of people get thrown out

It was a tale of two games. One team put us in the hole and the other team pulled us out by the force of its will. Who is on either team?

My Grades:
Saunders: 5
No blame on the penalty shot, but the goal was very soft and I can't figure out what he was doing coming off his line. Had two very good saves to keep us in it, on diving left on Accam(?) was SotW worthy.

RJ Allen: 1
Got his pocket absolutely picked by Accam, then compounds it by tackling him from behind in the box. He's already in the box! Let him shoot, at least you give saunders a chance to stop it. Tackle him and you guarantee a goal and get your ass thrown out. Please cut him. Kreis gets a major fail for starting him.

Hernandez: 6
Didn't stand out negatively, but I can't remember any plays standing out positively either.

Wingert: 4
At fault on first goal, well, maybe his parents are at fault for making him too short to be a CB, and on Kreis for starting him, and on Reyna/CFG for not providing a better option.

Brovsky: 4
Just is not good on the left. I remember one cross that was so bad, otherwise invisible.

Jacobson: 4
You need to be able to distribute from the CDM spot, and he just cannot link to the rest of the midfield. So many turnovers from that spot are killers on the defense.

Mix: 7
Busy, tracking back and breaking up plays was involved in the attack. When he gets the ball in an advanced position he can run the show. When he has to play the 10 and the 6 he is wasted. Sweet pass to Villa to set up the tying goal.

Ballouchy: 5
How does he keep scoring? Invisible the whole game then somehow ends up scoring. Credit to him, but it doesn't make up for backpassing and seeming clueless when moving forward. Could his set pieces be worse?

Alvarez 4
I don't even know if he touched the ball once before being subbed off.

Villa: 8
Took the game on his shoulders and earned us a point through force of will alone. Created both goals, and should have earned a penalty after being tackled from behind in a play too similar to Allen's top have let go. My biggest regret of us sucking is that we are wasting the time we do have to watch him.

Mullins: 7
Hustles and hustels, got himself into dangerous positions, nearly set up villa, and his dribbling is more confident.

Subs:

Facey: 6
Played well on defense, good positioning, I would say it was his best game for us. Not involved offensively, but that may have been by design to avoid getting countered on.

Shelton: 7
I wonder if he had his last miss in mind when he took this one early from a great through ball by Villa. So much better as a sub.

McNamara: 6
Great to see him out there, nice touch, should play more.
You're using my "tale of two games" bit. ;)

Another thought about this match is that Villa was everywhere. It was like he was making up for the NJRB game's somewhat lackluster performance. Sort of just to show everyone what he's about and why he's here, just to make sure nobody forgets.

Mix seemed similarly reinvigorated

After sleeping on it:

* LOVED David Villa stealing his own sporting back pass to Chicago after they delayed putting the ball into play. That's the attitude we need!!!

* Shelton is a rookie. His scoring/shot taking/shot strength will improve. But it's hard to teach the speed and heart he shows on the field. LOVED that he got his first goal.

* I've been critical of Mehdi before. But I LOVED his goal and he had to be in position to make it happen. He is now our leading scorer and the only player on the team on track to score double digits this year. What a game!

* LOVED a two-goal-deficit-down-a-man comeback. There probably won't be another in the MLS all year. Anyone know when the last one was?

* LOVED that both goals came in extra time!! There is nothing more exciting than that.

Counting the days (14) till I'm back at YS singing and screaming with 20k of my best friends.

Allen should never play for us again. I'm off the ballouchy hate train.

Security was insane.

Shortly after the goal and red card a HoO guy was chanting "the red is an asshole" and "fuck Chicago" - was escorted out by three guys even after calmly saying he'd stop swearing. he is a guy who's been a fixture in 238 and got the section going. I don't know his name but 238 was listless after that and kind of quiet. security lost it after the smoke bomb at the half after the ballouchy goal. swearing at everyone ("who the fuck threw the smoke bomb", "check every fucking bag", "give me your fucking bag")... he also was just snatching bags to open and inspect them rather than giving anyone a chance to comply first. here's a picture of the lovely gentleman screaming swear words at the fans and his calm attitude:
I miss the awesome black lady who used to police that area. she was fun and when she had to enforce the rules even about swearing she was nice and never threatened ejection or anything.

I did feel bad for the nypd officer who got a ton of smoke in his face from that flare.

I thought he might have meant me, but then I realized it couldn't be me. I've consistently argued our whole team is shit except for 3-4 guys. It was 4-5, but then I gave up on Grabavoy.

I missed it, and you're not the first or even second to say this. Who sang?
Won't help my contrarian rep (since I obviously care a lot about that), but I didn't like it. She was a great singer, but I'm not a fan of embellishment in the context of a public anthem.

I think she may have changed keys 3 times.

Great way not to get ejected for swearing - don't swear. Great way not to get ejected for smoke bombs - no smoke bombs. It's pretty simple.

What the hell is with the books on this thread? Keep it short or I'll skim of skip ....ain't nobody got time for that. That being said we put ourselves in a huge hole because we have some shit players but fought back for a point and it was exciting and I'm happy.

Its called a forum. Not twitter.

Or don't get seen blatantly swearing...otherwise stand up to Garber's ridiculous rules at every opportunity.

The entire forum has the shortest memory and most pessimistic attitude toward everything.

A player scores, our reaction is a sarcastic "great, Kreis is going to keep playing him."

A player has a good 15 minute debut as a sub, "he looks great!" Next game, "he's terrible, cut him!"

We call all week to replace certain guys, and when their replacements find the field, "Kries should be embarrassed for playing those guys!"

I know everyone is frustrated, but there is almost zero depth of thought going into passing the blame around, and bandwagoners screaming agreement because everyone just wants to pile on. It's getting old.

This is not a constructive conversation: "Ballouchy sucks, he can't pass." "Maybe, but he has actually scored some goals." "DOESN'T MATTER, he still sucks and he and everyone else should be fired."

I don't want to have to wade through shit like that to get to the bits of reasonable discussion.

EDIT: This is not targeted at any specific posters. I'm guilty of it too, because I'm frustrated as well. It just needs to be addressed before this place becomes unreadable.

This!!!

Critique is fine but it would be nice to see more posts with an intelligent balance of positive and negative (or god (Thor) forbid a purely positive review).

And as I said in my last post, there was lots to love about the last game. If you didn't see it you either weren't watching or just want to hate.

I loved the game! I was cheering our players, I love them on the field. However, that is tempered by the fact that it took a heroic effort to draw with one of the worst teams in the league.

Agreed.

But that doesn't make everyone and everything shit. Not saying you say this, but that's the sentiment that's getting tiresome on this board.

And before the haters pounce, yes, I know you all have every right to bitch and moan. It's just boring to listen to.
