NYCFC Social Media Thread

I've got a long sleeved Poku. That being said, I wish I got a blank one (and maybe short sleeved).
I have the auth hypno kit with Poku. I think he left shortly after I received it.

I would watch a 30 minute ESPN documentary on Poku. Just completely flamed out
The thing is, other than a few moments of excitement, the flame was never really on.

He was exciting though. Probably the most brilliant roster move this club made was getting pretty big money for him from Miami NASL!

Yup, one more step down the road towards the enshittification of the internet and modern society. Feels like if you're running a business or a company it's almost corporate negligence to not have your own Mastodon instance. CFG can afford it, and MLS should do it as well. Can't count on Twitter any more, even if they do happen to walk back this latest thing.

While I've never had a Twitter account, is this really all that wrong? Does Twitter monetize embedded or shared tweets in anyway? Would it be that unusual for them to try to encourage the many people who utilize Twitter via third parties (me, seemingly everyone on Reddit) to actually enter their business?

I've long felt as though Twitter wasn't really a necessary app as everything could be done on other apps, but it does seem as though tons of people use(d) Twitter without actually using Twitter.

it's not wrong per se. but it's always left the publication of tweets to the user allowing the person who sent the tweet to set their stream as private or public. to put everything behind a sign in requirement will definitely hurt twitter as a whole. i used to use twitter back when it first started but as it changed, i slowly got out of it (and glad i did). but I still use it for certain things, like following NYCFC and random news bits.

how will I get the starting lineup now? lol. guess i gotta use the NYCFC app!

Do you like the Amazing Plays/Utter Crap subforums? Sorry dude, but 98% of that will now be invisible to you unless you agree to see all their ads and supply your personal information (with consent to track you and sell your info all over the universe). Just as one example.

I get it, but is there any other platform that will host data (posts, photos, videos) at Twitter's scale to be displayed on third party sites with no chance of monetization?

Buying Twitter was silly, as it was a money losing platform to begin with, but it had to be assumed they would have to seek profitability at some point (Musk or no Musk) and something like this would happen eventually.

Yes, absolutely. Mastodon. It's Twitter-like, but there's no advertising, no monetization, and no algorithms. And there's also micro.blog, although that's a little different as it's a paid service, maybe $5 a month. Not quite the same thing but it does exist.

I don't really want to get into a giant Twitter/Musk discussion but the short version is he outlawed bot accounts so now the National Weather service can no longer warn you about hurricanes or tornadoes unless they fork over multiple thousands of dollars per month. He also destroyed the blue check verification system, so now I could pay $8 a month and register something like NWSnewyorkcity and post all the fake hurricanes, tornadoes, and Godzilla rampages I want and have a nice official blue check next to it all.

It's really been a bit of a disaster.

I don't really want to get into a giant Twitter/Musk discussion so I actually won't. But, Twitter is so much better now. Out.

While I really haven't spent much time before/after Musk to have a personal opinion, you are far from the first person I've heard say that. Even people who dislike Musk have told me "I hate to admit it, but it's actually getting better by the day."

I've heard Mastodon is fairly complicated and limited largely to the techy community. Also, would they continue to act totally freely if they got to the scale of Twitter?
The other thing I hear about Mastodon, amongst coworkers, is that it is a great place for the child pornography community. I'm sure that is blown out of proportion, but I've heard it quite a few times, it's hard to shake an image like that.

I have found all the handwringing over the supposed content decline on Twitter to be wrong. I curate properly and only see posts from people I follow. I’ve noticed no difference in tone. I have noticed a decrease in content. People having bad experiences have left, and others I used to follow (like GameFlow) have been blocked. It’s not as good for me because of that drop, and this limit on tweets per day might be enough to push me off.

My issue right now is limits on how many tweets I can read. Since I don’t have blue I can only read 600 tweets a day. And today I went past that quickly since I follow lots of sports accounts on my feed plus reading replies to nba signings for example.
