Claudio Reyna Departs NYCFC; David Lee Promoted to Sporting Director

That the players can achieve a degree of success and that the organization is a dumpster fire are not mutually exclusive.

What’s lost in ALL of this is that Reyna takes over Austin effective immediately. That means this has been in the works for likely a long time and Reyna very likely (but not 100%) made the decision. Hires like this by a sports team are not identified immediately without a serious search - and surprised they could approach him while under contract without causing tampering - and once approached and selected, the negotiations take time. This all points to Reyna knowing he wanted to make a jump to a new town, an infant team with a fan-hated owner, and has engaged in this for a while. He’s not taking time off to survey the possibilities, it’s an immediate stepover.

Maybe CFG played the part of letting him have the appearance of leaving on his own accord, ie notified of pink slip at same time as Dome but kept on to find a landing spot and good press for keeping reputation in tact of not being fired???? Or maybe Reyna created his own parachute escape because he’s disenchanted or otherwise. That may be another story filed away next to Mix’s - I’m sure nobody will ever say. But whatever the reason, it wasn’t something convicted on short notice.

shit i recall some people wanting reyna out couple of seasons ago ( in addition to the whole gio situation) now you all want him to stay.

everything is happening that same time, another GM, another coach( tough the second PV was assigned i suspected we would be a place for managers to test themselves to see if they can hang in europe). and no stadium. looks like we starting from scratch and the work of two years is now out the window. just another day in the nycfc fan life.

im still wearing that cap / beanie with the logo everyday though

I think the most reasonable explanation is that Claudio was not happy with the contract negotiations he was having with CFG, then sent word around the league that he was interested and maybe looking for a change. Obviously, Austin FC loved that idea and moved on it. So yes this is probably something Claudio wanted to do, but while he wasn't pushed out the door he got a little nudge thanks to contract negotiations that weren't to his liking after putting together such a strong roster, both first-team and academy.

Which speaks exactly to the issue of ownership if he put together the quality roster: first team and academy - yet still had problems with negotiations. That speaks volumes about how he was valued by the organization (fans’ opinions not withstanding).

Right. And it begs the question as to why. We will never get the answers, but why was he not valued properly by the decision-makers? By all accounts and results he has been a top-3 SD in the league over the last 5 years, so it's pretty stunning that they allowed him to walk out the door.

Actually "smug little shit" is infinitely worse form than "pearl clutching" but I guess your post count makes you entitled
Actually no. "Pearl clutching" is an emasculating comment to make towards a poster that is obviously a man. To take a holier than thou attitude with a dunk that has gender-charged connotations is exactly the behavior of a smug little shit.

And if you can't see that, then maybe you need to retake your company's implicit bias training.

This is the kind of absurd pearl-clutching that tells me it's the offseason. Go and ask Orlando fans if we could have had a worse start.
I specifically thought of Orlando before I made my comment and to be honest I still stand by comment 100%. As someone who lives in Tampa and has been to watch NYCFC in Orlando a number of times including the first ever game played, I still would rather be Orlando then NYCFC and here is why.

On the field we have been better in the regular season true. They have also had a musical chair of coaches and personnel moves much like ours.

But guess what, on the field, we both have fuck all to show for it. Neither team has won anything and moving forward who is to say we will be better which to me is irrelevant to this conversation because we dont know.

What we do know is this.

Orlando has one of the best soccer stadiums in the country, a real vibrant community, and major major support from the city and community.

That alone puts them in a much better position moving forward then us. No contest.

There are some parallels to be drawn, but... In a million years I'd prefer to support a club that has won 10+ games in all seasons if its existence, rather than a club that finished 14th or lower in its entire history. Neither have won trophies, our attendance is similar... The only difference is we don't have a SSS. If we had that, would we see 25+ per game? And more support from the community?

Sure, maybe Orlando's FO is better than ours but... I don't like watching 90 minutes of yawn soccer, and that's what I think of when I think of Orlando City SC.

TL;DR: I think we're way better off than OSC

MY Jets, too! And that's it, those are my 3 teams. Sad.

P. S. Don't see the Jets beating the Raiders this weekend. Do you?

because I Bleed green and am blinded by that fact, i see a jets blowout. However, if I’m going to be honest, there are too many injuries to the jets on both sides of the ball, and no matter how well both Darnold and Adams are playing, a well coached, competent team can expose them. And that’s what the Raiders are. so the realist jets fan I am sees us blowing a 2nd half lead and the fire Gase crowd coming back in full force.

I won't knock this at all, as it's your valid opinion. I have my (many) frustrations, but personally I value the performance/success of the team throughout the season(s) much more highly. The post-season pain thus far is important, but I get much of my enjoyment out of the game-to-game experience, which is significantly based upon how well they have played, wins, and how much fun the team has been to watch. Of course, there are factors that work against that (stadium, diminishing crowd, etc.), but the relatively consistent on-field production vs. Orlando's renders this not even a close comparison for me. It would be a completely different story if we still looked like we did in 2015 on the field.
