Dome seemed to be upset with the league moreso than he was upset with the team. Claudio's contract apparently had one year left and they were struggling to agree on a new one. That's from this article and from Twellman a month ago. So did Claudio jump, or did CFG decide they didn't really want him back? I don't think it's as simple as we're in shambles, nor do I think it's as simple as my Nos. 1 and 2 above. I'm sure there are a lot of moving parts here.

I won't knock this at all, as it's your valid opinion. I have my (many) frustrations, but personally I value the performance/success of the team throughout the season(s) much more highly. The post-season pain thus far is important, but I get much of my enjoyment out of the game-to-game experience, which is significantly based upon how well they have played, wins, and how much fun the team has been to watch. Of course, there are factors that work against that (stadium, diminishing crowd, etc.), but the relatively consistent on-field production vs. Orlando's renders this not even a close comparison for me. It would be a completely different story if we still looked like we did in 2015 on the field.

Agreed. Being a sports fan isn't a zero-sum game where the only enjoyment can come from winning trophies. I enjoy the ride every season, and I'd much prefer being a fan of a good team than a fan of a team that can't seem to figure out how to win, even if neither side has won it all.

Is compensation part of the MLS rules? If not, then it's not NYCFC's fault. If Austin doesn't have to give us anything, they won't. Odds are Claudio will resign from NYCFC, allowing Austin to sign him without compensation. That's not NYCFC's fault, it's the rules of the league that Austin are following.

I know some other leagues do allow it, but I would be surprised if MLS allowed free cross-hiring of executives at the same level from other teams. Between the single entity structure and the fact they have a rule for almost everything (even if they are sometimes loosely applied) I have to think they discourage this. I would not expect much, maybe a small amount of GAM or worse, a useless SuperDraft pick. But I would expect them to require something.

If we get compensation or not might be a decent tell as to which side was responsible for the separation. If Claudio pushed to go to Austin I agree that we'd have justification for comp. If CFG fired Claudio and he landed on his feet in Austin we shouldn't get anything.

You wouldn't be allowed to hire away another team's GM in any other major American sport without compensation. Heck, I don't think you are even allowed to speak with them about a job.

I don't see why MLS would be any different.

Excuse my ignorance but who is going to be taking the helm during the offseason when it comes to player signings and personnel decisions? If we have no sporting director or head coach...

David Lee is the next highest-level person in the front office, so it seems he will be acting Sporting Director until we can find a new SD.

For what it's worth, multiple media members are talking about how well-respected and competent Lee is. So there's a chance this isn't as bad as some people think it is.

I wouldn't expect if there was compensation that either team would want to release that into the public realm. What is there to gain by doing that?

I specifically thought of Orlando before I made my comment and to be honest I still stand by comment 100%. As someone who lives in Tampa and has been to watch NYCFC in Orlando a number of times including the first ever game played, I still would rather be Orlando then NYCFC and here is why.

On the field we have been better in the regular season true. They have also had a musical chair of coaches and personnel moves much like ours.

But guess what, on the field, we both have fuck all to show for it. Neither team has won anything and moving forward who is to say we will be better which to me is irrelevant to this conversation because we dont know.

What we do know is this.

Orlando has one of the best soccer stadiums in the country, a real vibrant community, and major major support from the city and community.

That alone puts them in a much better position moving forward then us. No contest.
