If the compensation is a draft pick it has to be public eventually whenever the pick is used. Might as well announce it now. As for GAM/TAM, they changed the rule to require amounts be public for players moves. I can't think of a good reason to keep it a secret for an executive move but this wouldn't be the first time MLS does something and I can't think of a good reason for it.

Odds are that there was no compensation if nothing was announced. Nothing can be 100% because this is MLS and transparency really isn't their thing, but an educated guess is that Claudio resigned, allowing Austin FC to sign him without compensation.

I guess I'm assuming that there can be no "usable" compensation for an executive/coach. Any compensation would be cash to the club, but not usable for salary-cap purposes. In that regard, I'm not sure why either club would want to publish that as it would show what the asking price was.

My first though upon seeing the picture: "Oh, that's who he is?"

This team is so opaque I literally didn't even know what the new sporting director looks like! I could have walked past him on the street and not known who he was.

Also, this team just hired a new general manager -- can you imagine any other team in any other sport in America not holding a press conference with the new GM/Sporting Director? How is it possible that it doesn't appear there will be any kind of press conference with this guy? We're just going to name a new GM and he's not going to answer any questions? Come on, guys. There are so many questions to answer about this move, and we're just going to ignore all of it? Maybe if we're lucky we'll get a team-sanitized video with some quotes from him. It's not good enough.

That's not really the way it works - at least in the other American leagues. If he is under contract, other teams can't even try to sign him. Resigning doesn't change that.

To cite one example (of many), when Bill Belichick resigned as coach of the Jets after 2 days, the Patriots had to send a package of draft picks to New York to hire him. He was effectively banned by the NFL from coaching anywhere until that deal got done.

No it literally says Reyna first learned of him when he saw him scouting Yangel. Then "THEY" watched him for two years. THEY were both involved. It wasn't all Reyna

If you have to deceptively add quote marks to the second paragraph to make it look like it's a continuation of what David Lee said, and it definitely is not, I mean, come on. There is not a single sentence in that article where Lee and Medina both appear. Your argument boils down to taking the fact that the article shows that David Lee was actively involved as part of a group in creating NYCFC's roster for several years, and assigning him individual blame for one specific failure -- with no evidence -- while giving him no credit for the overall success.

As I just wrote in the stadium thread -- there are dozens of valid criticism against this team and its ownership -- why make stuff up?

I'd just like to chime in to say the Medina hate has really snowballed. He did not pan out as a highly-paid designated player, correct. He did not end up finding a niche on the team that earned him lots of minutes, correct. But he also doesn't suck at soccer. He's going to have a long career in the sport past his time at NYCFC. There's a lot of reasons a signing doesn't pan out, and not all of them are because the player isn't talented. Reyna/Lee missed something when scouting this guy (or the team needs/tactics changed after the fact) but that doesn't doom them to be shit talent evaluators, especially if they learn something from the experience.

Do they do press conferences for GM and sporting directors in MLS though? Honestly all i tend to read is a tweet with a link to an artcle. I think even other soccer leagues they dont do this, if anything when a new signing or a manager is presented that they show up to the press.

And honestly your gonna get like 4 people at nycfc press conference for a GM/director role

And further to this, it's one high-profile miss in the midst of any number of high-profile success stories. This team knows how to bring in players that will be successful, even if not every single one pans out.

Yes, I do believe other teams hold some types of media availabilities -- even if it's just a conference call. Hell, Austin just held a conference call for Reyna.

And if you give media availability, you will get media to show up. Newsday, NY Post, Pro Soccer, national reporters, fan blogs and podcasts ... there would be a pretty good number of media at something like that.

I think you overestimating the media that will show up. Podcasts and blogs no doubt will, the likes of newsday, post, and daily news won't because i dont even think they have a soccer writer. Kyle is no longer in post anyway. This is not someone of like cashman level of exposure leaving so they don't care here in nyc press.

Like i said whenever a coach is named im sure something will be done and they can ask stuff they want to them both. I personally want them to get to work right away naming coach finding players which is more importan to me than a press confernce for the GM.
