Well, temp stadium anyway. Just saw this at MLS dot com:
NEW YORK – New York City FC will soon have a place to call home.

Claudio Reyna, the former US national team star and NYCFC's Director of Football, told a handful of reporters at the club’s official badge unveiling on Thursday night that an announcement for the temporary stadium is looming.

It has been widely speculated that Yankee Stadium will host NYCFC when the MLS expansion franchise’s inaugural season gets underway in 2015, but Reyna did not confirm or deny that rumor during the ceremony.

Instead, he kept things simple by saying that a decision on the venue would be publicly made in the coming weeks.

“We’re close on that. We’ll soon announce where we’ll be playing,” Reyna said. “Within the next month. We expect to have an announcement within the next month.”
I'm with the majority who believe it's only a matter of time before they name Yankee Stadium as the temp venue. I might be in the minority on this one, but I also believe Citi Field would be available if any sort of conflict comes up that would keep the team out of the Bronx.

Of course it's only my 2 cents worth(less), but the Mets/Yankees thing a lot of people chirp about is overblown. If and when the Mets are offered a piece of the action, the Wilpons will welcome NYCFC with open arms.

“We’re still looking, we’re talking to the city”

Maybe its over analysing the words but this does suggest the club are still very much intent on finding somewhere within city boundaries rather than the Westchester region. So it looks like the next major announcement to come will indeed be the temporary stadium. So as far as official club matters are concerned it seems we can expect a quiet next few weeks as far as public information.

If they go outside of the five then it is only the same thing that always happens. The temporary stadium HAS to be within city limits.

To avoid confusion for those who may not be familiar with the layout of NYC Metro, Bronx (Yankee Stadium) and Queens (Citifield/Mets Stadium) are seperated by the Long Island Sound with the island of Manhattan directly to the West, which is seperated by the East River.

There have never been any indications of a temp stadium in Westchester (not part of the 5 boros: Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, Staten Island).

I've heard Icahn Stadium thrown around. Which is on Roosevelt Island (between Queens and Manhattan...it's a very small island). Though I hope that doesn't happen. It's not very commuter friendly.

I would also prefer Citifield or Arthur Ashe (could that even work?). But Yankees seems to be the most realisitic.

Wilpons and Steinbrenner are good friends privately.. So I wouldn´t be surprised if they work it out

There's the great story of Pele's first Cosmos game at Downing (Icann's predecessor) where the team painted the field green since the grass was so poor. Pele threatened to quit while complaining afterwards that he contracted a some foot disease until he was told it was just paint.

‘I cannot play for this team any more,’ Pele, the $7m man, is shouting in the changing room after his debut. ‘All I have is my feet and I have this green fungus growing all over them.’

‘Wait!’ responds De la Sierra. ‘That is no fungus. It’s green paint. We had to paint the dirt on the pitch for the TV cameras!’

I'm hoping that Yankee Stadium will be announced as NYCFCs temporary stadium. Always loved going there and it's really not to hard to get to from the subwayimage.jpg

The only thing I didn't like about Yankee stadium when they played the friendlies there is that the fans weren't in any sort of proximity to the field. It's just wayyyy too wide. Same with any other baseball field.

This is my two cents. If our temporary stadium is Yankee Stadium, which it likely will be, It'll suck. How do I know this? Because of how much Montreal fans BITCH in the beginning of the season when they play games at the Big O (Olympique Stadium, former home of the expos). Soccer is not meant to be played in baseball stadiums, but if it is, we will make due.

I understand MLB has issue$ with the Yankees ground-sharing but I imagine they'll be cleared up before too long. Assuming that's the case, my GF (who hates the Yankees) will go to games under protest. :D

MLB is just trying to get some money out of the Yankees and ManCity. Look at Oakland the Raiders and the A's share that crappy field. 8 games in a short period of time compared to 20 games in a 9 month span. Its all money.

Agree that it's far from ideal but in all likelihood it's what we will have to endure for 3 years unless there is some unforeseen development. That said, it will make the feeling of finally having a beautiful SSS to call home that much sweeter, won't it?
