I didn't think things would get worse there but they actually did. I have never seen so much childhood bickering and self entitled assholes in my entire life. It's a real shame that this group represents us as fans, it's disgusting and embarrassing. I hope the whole thing folds on itself quickly to save us the shame.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, the Facebook page is an absolute warzone. People kicking each other off the page, board members leaving left and right, people making up memes about other members, no transparency with any financials whatsoever, and just generally children acting like children. Hopefully nobody is stupid enough to give them their hard earned cash in 2016. I'm truly embarrassed to have given them my money twice. What a shame.

How do you join Hearts of Oak again?

Jeez, what a shitshow. Why can't they get it together? Too many big egos it seems like.

Has there been any instance of a main MLS supporters group folding? If it did happen, how do the other groups go about becoming the official SG?

My question to you is why do you need to join a supporters group? Can't you just support the team with your friends in the bleachers?
There's a definite need for a Supporters' Group (or several), but Third Rail's not it.

It's natural to struggle to start something up, but the leadership of that group has been non-existent and misguided.

I don't need to, I don't even sit in the bleachers but I think it's important for the overall atmosphere of the game. It's just shocking to me that something seemingly simple and supposedly fun is so hard to pull off and is overrun by giant egos from petulant children.

Yes, it is absolutely true !!!! I can't comment more on their facebook page after that I asked a simple question about the why they were so few in an away game........... Ridicolous.

Ahh okay cool. I can understand why they are having issues. It's not easy to control a mass amount of people of different ages and backgrounds. It's sad but life happens. #LetsGoNYCFC

They should put the Blue Ladies in charge. Zero problems there...just sayin' :)
Seriously, these babies need some strong maternal leadership.

I wonder if it can even work in new york. New Yorkers are not exactly known as cooperative, friendly folks, like say Midwesterners et al. Based on the creatures that make up most of our other fan bases, I'll be surprised if anything ends up sticking

While I think your idea of what away support should be in this country is a little far reaching and, at times, silly, I think they could do a better job of getting people to the away matches. Promotion is almost nonexistent and if you're not looking out for the information it's very hard to miss it. It's one of the reasons I renewed my membership.

THIS.

ONE THOUSAND TIMES, THIS.

Part of it, for me, is that as a group, soccer fans can really show their support in an impressive way, whether it be through chants, tifos, what have you. I throw my financial support behind it because I like that stuff and its unique to the MLS in comparison to the rest of the sports landscape in this country. I hoped for something better than what we got.

In MLS belonging to a supporter group is a necessary evil. In order to take advantage of General Admission ticketing, dedicated sections, Away Tickets and other "fan experience" perks you need to be a group, ability to display tifo and other large banners. Third Rail has been able to do some pretty cool shit over the past year, including but not limited to closed media/press events, on-field access to a USMNT match et al.

Thanks for the explanation.

In other words, they've managed to do some good things, even if their reaction to the smoke bomb issues is completely dysfunctional.

Third Rail? Of course. I think they've done more good than bad. Their reaction to the smoke isn't even dysfunctional, they just went about it the wrong way.
