what are your feelings on our great American soccer experiment?

I'm pretty damn pleased overall. I have had some shit experiences. Just earning our stripes, I'd call it.

Anyone who says our club is anything less than a shining success is biased or promoting a specific agenda or both.

We fall and we get up. We do dumb shit, some of it entirely predictable and avoidable.

But you really can't hate where we are. And damnit, we have a soccer club in NYC.

And we have our own weirdo culture. And we're all good with everyone hating us. Fuck 'em. We're winning. That shit is all pure NYC

Did someone hack your account or are the watermelon cocktails just that good?

I basically agree with your post, though I think the stadium question is a major black mark. I don't really fault the club itself because it's an incredibly difficult ask in this city, but it's still a drag.

As far as what's on the field, for all the mistakes that have been made the direction is unmistakeably positive and I think our leadership has shown that while far from infallible they are at least capable of learning, which counts for a lot.

I hate it. I hate it less so long as we can use it to troll and other teams use it as an excuse for losing to us. Then, we beat their asses at their places, too.

Totally agree with everything you said except for that last bit. As New Yorkers I think we'd say "fuck 'em" regardless of whether we're in first place or in last place.
But fuck 'em resonates so much better when it comes down from on high. That's NYC to me.

Yeah, I'll be quiet now. But just wait, mf'er.

We've had highs and lows, ups and downs, good stories and bad stories, but overall we're trending in a very positive direction. 3rd year better than 2nd and 2nd year better than 1st.

Looking back you have to consider two things:
- What if Lampard was here from the start and Kreis got it right from the beginning (i.e. the draft of drafts and we get Larin)? Do we sign Pirlo out of stardom need? Do we make the playoffs in year 1? Does he keep this job? What does the future look like in terms of player signings and success?
- What if Vieira was here from the start rather than Kreis and didn't need two years to get the true roster he wants to build? After 2016, we scrapped all the players from the leftover Kreis regime (Hernandez, Saunders, etc.). After 2017, we'll scrap the big money in Pirlo and truly have three DPs.

We've been through a number of front office changes since 2013 but I think Patricof has been the best and setting the example from the top down of what this club is about and should represent. At least, he has been the most public facing. I've seen the most of him rather than any other President the club has had.

The only overhanging negative is the stadium, which will come, in time.

The only future worry I have is how do we sustain this success and ability to play the City way without Vieira. Unless we get someone from Manchester that has been trained properly, I can't name anyone else possible to take us over when Vieira departs to Europe.

But, in the end, we've made a huge footprint in the city for soccer and have done more than a team in New Jersey could in 22 years.

I am honestly thrilled about how everything was gone, but the only thing I wish they began earlier was the youth academy at all levels when they announced the club. That way, would have been able to sign some HGPs right away, all while grooming the younger generations in the Man City blueprint.

Pretty much have forgiven CFG for Lampardgate.

Need an official stadium announcement soon.

We've gotten better every year, and CFG has shown they are willing to do whatever it takes to win (ie, firing Kries, buying out Mix, gotten us some badass prospects like Herrera).

Just imagine where this team would be if this team had a Lodeiro or a Giovinco instead of Pirlo. Dear Lord.

I don't even have massive problems with how bad we were season one at this point. You need a little adversity to appreciate the good times don't you? Those of us who were there from day one can never be considered glory hunters because of it. Well I'm sure fans of other teams will still try to label us but we'll know how wrong they are.

The Stadium.... I really want it though a selfish part of me fears that anywhere it realistically ends up at this point will be more difficult for me to get to from Connecticut so...

Also, Yankee Stadium isn't nearly as awful an experience as many people feared it would be. It's not perfect, and our own stadium would be far more ideal, but Yankee Stadium has been fine. And frankly, I think playing our games there has given the club positive publicity. When I talk to non-soccer fans about how much fun the games are, they ask me where the team plays. When I tell them, they say they should really try and get to a game.

It's almost like playing at the Stadium gives our games a sense of legitimacy. Obviously I'd prefer our own stadium, but we could have done a lot worse than Yankee Stadium for our first few years.

While I understand your point, the fact they have to ask shows how badly they need a stadium of their own. No one would ask where NYCFC plays if they had their own 30,000+ stadium. Everyone would already know

To be fair, these were people who aren't huge sports fans and don't follow that sort of thing. I think the majority of sports fans know who and what NYCFC is at this point.

As far as stadiums are concerned, let's not forget we are New Amsterdam. A city founded by Dutch people driven by their own interpretation of the scripture to believe it was their duty to open trade routes and make economic deals with empires and cultures the world over. And 20 years later, the holy people that they were finally got around to building a church.

What's old is always new again, friends.

Lest we forget, the Dutch settlers of our fine city were so religious and patriotic, when the Brits sailed in, they demanded the Dutch government hand over the reins as to not interrupt trade.

This city has always been international. It is by and of the world. We will support ourselves and each other, and in that way, we are uniquely New York and fully deserving of a club that comes with complications. Why would you want it any other way?

And now look at the city, there are sometimes two and three churches on a block. Breuckelen is known as the Borough of Churches.

Give it time and maybe there will be a stadium on every block, or at least every Borough.

I'm just looking forward to the day when it goes from "oh NYCFC, the team that plays at Yankee stadium" to "oh NYCFC, I heard they have an incredible stadium".

This turned into the stadium thread faster than expected. Also, saying that the stadium experience is good is correct but misses what the issue is. The problem with Yankee Stadium is not Yankee Stadium. The problem is sharing it with the Yankees.
Games that have to happen midweek. Saturday games that cannot be at night because the Yankees play Tuesday. Unable to reschedule for weather or emergencies. Unable to host friendlies. Unable to host US Open cup matches. No home games ever in October except the last game of the season. Weird home/away streaks.

Stadium aside, I have little to add beyond what's been said especially in the posts by Midas Mulligan and LionNYC.
Oh, and I have not forgotten or forgiven the Lampard thing, but I have moved on. Who cares at this point. But if you ask me, fuck Lampard, Soriano and Man City. But none of them are NYCFC. Life is good, and so is this team.
