Come on man, this is being disingenuous.
Your first post was making a completely different point about the schedule, not necessarily about what people's opinions were on mid-week games. The second post completely shifted the point from there is only 1 home game in that period to there may be multiple home games and some of those would be mid-week and some of us don't like that.
It's ok to just say the first post was wrong, or that it required additional clarification that you just didn't include at first

The extra midweek games this year have absolutely nothing to do with CFG/Yankees and everything to do with the fact that the season was just trimmed by three weeks. They have 21 fewer days to get the regular-season finished, so odds are everyone will have an extra 3-4 weekday games this season.
As for midweek games -- the Rangers and Knicks sell out on weekdays, the Yankees get 40,000 on weekday night games once school lets out. We should stop using that as an excuse.
I love midweek games. Weekend games screw up my schedule with kids parties, family, etc...
I’m just saying NYCFC has no control about it till they get their own SSS. They basically have to fit their square peg into the round hole that is the Yankees schedule (or asshole, i can’t tell anymore). If they didn’t, we’d be praising the new playoff format instead of wondering where we’ll play next season because of it.
Oh yeah -- this new playoff format is a disaster for NYCFC's postseason as long as the Yankees remain playoff contenders.
Rangers and knicks are not a good comparison. They play in midtown above one of two major train stations that include multiple subways within a block and the bus depot a few blocks away. It’s convenient from the office and to then commute home. Yankee stadium is a trek away from midtown and then a schlep back which makes travel to the east/west burbs less than easy.
Fine. Compare the Yankees -- they get 40,000 on weeknights. There's no reason we can't draw on weeknights, other than it's more rare to have a weekday game so our fans have been conditioned not to attend them.
To be honest, I'd like MLS to schedule some premier games for those weekday games. We got 30,000 for a weeknight Derby in August -- let's host Atlanta and Toronto on a weekday, maybe part of the reason people don't attend them is that the opponents are usually awful.
You might get your wish. As one think weekday night games do is boost TV ratings. And MLS wants to bring those up as much as possible before the next TV rights negotiation/bidding.
Yeah, I read an article that while weekday games have lower attendance, they get much higher TV ratings. I could definitely see FS1 and ESPN getting some marquee games on weekdays.
Attendance is not that good in baseball. I'm sure the Knicks could draw 40,000 if they had the capacity and priced their tickets accordingly.
Once school lets out and the weather gets warm, attendance is pretty good in baseball. Obviously I don't fault NYCFC or the Yankees for not drawing on a cold April weeknight -- but once the weather is nice, there's really no excuse not to get 20,000 fans in the building.
For the Yankees this past season -- I'm just clicking on a random Tuesday in August against the White Sox (a very nondescript opponent, the RSL of MLB), they got 40,015. Random Wednesday night in August against the Rays (think of the Columbus Crew -- good team but no one interesting on the squad): 42,716. A June Tuesday night against Seattle (think Houston Dynamo): 45,122.
I just picked three weeknight games, all against nondescript opponents, at random -- the point remains. There's no reason NYCFC can't draw on a weeknight.
I didn't check the Yankees' promotion schedule, so maybe some of those games were aided by promotions. Perhaps that's one way NYCFC can goose attendance is by giving stuff away at their games. I rarely see a promotion at NYCFC home games. Give away a magnetic schedule at the first home game. Goalie gloves one night, shin pads another night, a poster another day. The Yankees have cap day, maybe we can give away a scarf. Get creative. A bobblehead of David Villa. A free captain's armband. Who knows, maybe that stuff would help, as silly as that sounds.
Soccer in America. Soccer in a baseball stadium. Not top clubs soccer. Soccer.
If the reason NYCFC don't draw on a weekday is that the games simply aren't important enough to go to games on weekdays, then fine. That's something the club has to work with and try to change. Hopefully one day the club becomes part of the fabric of the city. As of now, you're probably right.
The team has to be a fabric of the city. And soccer has to be a fabric of the country. New York is a terrible market. So many things to do: sports, art, theater, music, etc., etc., etc. It's hard to earn fans.
You're right about that. It takes time to develop a fanbase, especially in a city as cynical as this. It takes more than desire to replicate what happened in Seattle, Portland, and Atlanta. But the one thing those cities have in common is a theme of major professional sports letting those cities down. Seattle lost the Sonics, Portland only has hoops, and Atlanta has had numerous teams leave. Obviously New York City has never had any of those issues and as you said, it's such a busy market.
When it comes to Wednesday games it's simple for me. If it's during the school year I'm not going. I'm not paying for a babysitter so I can go to the match with my wife and I'm not bringing my kids because it'll be 10pm by the time I get home (assuming a 7PM start). If the midweek games were held between Memorial Day and Labor Day most likely I'm going.
In 2020, season will start in mid Feb in warm weather cities. Couldn't this year because of CBA and mandatory time off. Extra mid week games aside this year aside, this not only is going to help create a better playoff system but will help MLS teams in CCL
This is a much improved schedule from almost every perspective. Only reason we’re worried here is becuase we are tenants to a baseball team that has an overlapping schedule. Especially during the playoffs.
