Remember how Philly traded all of their SD picks to Cincinnat for $150k GAM and another conditional $50k? Well, Cincy just passed on both of the picks they got from the Union in the 3rd and 4th Rounds.
FCC - Hey Union! We'll give you $175k GAM + another $75k conditional for your 1st and 2nd round picks.
Union- How about $200k/$100k for all our picks?
FCC- No
Union - How about $175k/$75k - your opening bid - for all our picks? We really don't want them. We'll just give the 3rd and 4th rounds to you for free. Just take them.
FCC - Hmm, No.
Union - OK. How about $150k/$50k for all the picks?
FCC - Deal.

I don't understand this at all. FCD drafts a player signed to ATL 2? The player stays on ATL 2, ATL pays him, but FCD holds his rights? I guess you can do that because technically USL and MLS are not affiliated. But this is so weird. And it feels like they are screwing over the poor kid who can only now get called up to MLS if FCD agree on a transfer value.
Maybe FCD can call him up even though he's on ATL2. I mean, they own his MLS rights.
Dallas hold his MLS rights until the end of the 2020 season. Should Atlanta want to sign him to their first team within the next two years (goalkeeper hardship or something), they'd have to trade with FC Dallas for his MLS rights. Hostage.
Maybe, which begs the question are players on different deals when they move between MLS and USL, or the same deal and are just loaned from one team/league to the other. I think it's the latter. So it would have to be a loan from ATL2 to FCD. And that wouldn't happen without compensation from FCD to ATL. And ATL can't call him up without compensation from ATL to FCD. Basically this poor kid is screwed due to some arcane rights rules attempting to mimic other major US sports. This may be proof positive it's time to abolish the MLS draft. Or at least drastically re-write the rules regarding who can be drafted.
Maybe in the future the draft can be the USL draft since its less and less useful to MLS.
