2022 World Cup

Yeah. There's no sense in FIFA handing Fox the 2026 World cup unless they needed to settle a preemptive lawsuit by Fox for moving the 2022 World Cup. This could be nice for the US, as all of our MLS guys will have finished the season and should be in good form going into it.

It'll be interesting to see how MLS adjusts its calendar. You'll have to wrap up MLS Cup by October.

Pretty sure most of the MLS guys would miss the end of the season and the MLS playoffs. They'd be with the National Team preparing for the WC

how would a November / December / January world cup fare against NFL playoffs and college football bowls? what a mess.

Well, Qatar is 8 hours ahead of NYC. Depends on when during the day they set the matches; it's quite possible that the matches wouldn't have many conflicts. Also, for the group stage most of that is during the week.

So most of the matches are probably going to be early morning to early afternoon on the weekdays. Even on the weekends, that might miss most of the NFL/college traffic. Also worth noting college football shuts down weekend after Thanksgiving for most conferences, with only conference championships after that before a break and then the bowls. But it doesn't sound like it'll last until New Year's Eve, so I don't think college will be the big problem. It'll be the NFL likely killing the ratings for the World Cup final.

Or maybe it will be the ratings for the World Cup final as Mix Diskerud lifts the World Cup trophy killing the NFL. :)

MLS is not letting its stars miss the end of the season and MLS Cup. Teams would flip if they didn't have their best players for the most important part. Teams don't mind losing players during the summer because the playoffs let them back in it; they're not going to be ok with not having them for MLS Cup. They'll move the schedule.

And frankly, MLS has less moving to do than most leagues (and it might be smart for MLS to start moving itself away from ending during the smack middle of football season anyway).

I think they will move it.
Too ripe a target for terrorism. Considering you can drive across SA to get there in a few hours from Yemen.
this is from the gov.uk site:

Importing drugs, alcohol, pornography, pork products and religious books and material into Qatar is illegal. All luggage is scanned at Doha Airport Arrivals Hall. DVDs and videos may be examined and censored. Penalties for drug offences are severe, often resulting in prison sentences.

It is an offence to drink alcohol or be drunk in public. Alcohol is available at licensed hotel restaurants and bars, and expatriates living in Qatar can obtain alcohol on a permit system. Don’t carry alcohol around with you (except to take it on the day of collection from the warehouse to your home).

You should dress modestly when in public, including while driving. Women should cover their shoulders and avoid wearing short skirts. Any intimacy in public between men and women (including between teenagers) can lead to arrest. Homosexual behaviour is illegal in Qatar

That's all true, but FIFA had their chance to move it with the corruption. Instead, they doubled down and blamed the corruption on England, cleared itself of any wrongdoing. They've now bought off the North American TV partners. They're not moving it. Only way something happens is if the UEFA leagues say they're not releasing players and dare FIFA to try to sanction them, but I doubt they'd have the spine for that.

Worse than the UN and Olympic committee combined.

A few minutes ago , on Univision's sport section: This week FIFA is going to vote on whether to move the WC on Qatar to November.

I wonder how all the FIFA leagues in the planet are going to adapt? its going to create madness, everyone has to move their calendars even before the year before the WC. Maybe I am just hyperventilating for something that is not my problem...but it can possibly affect our team. 2022 seems far away
