2025 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs

and going out with his signature dirty tactics. for such a prolific and fantastic striker, his dirty ways really make it difficult to like him.

Has Surarez announced his retirement, or are we just assuming he's done, given his age and that contract is up in December? I know Busquets officially said he's done after this season, but I hadn't seen anything for Surarez.

afaik he has not officially and there's a chance he could stay one more year. just depends what messi and miami want and if they're willing to deal with him.

I’ve been using la grada online to keep track of playoff updates and post-match reactions, and it’s been super helpful. The mix of news and fan takes gives a clearer picture than just box scores or highlights. It’s especially useful for following what people are saying right after the games, even when I can’t watch live.

I'm still getting used to the new format, but I actually like the idea of all three rounds being best-of-three. Gives teams a real shot at proving themselves.

If you do that the playoffs take 2 months. Unless you want a Saturday-Wednesday-Sunday schedule which seems impractical.

Honestly, I hate the 3-game series. It's made-for-Apple so they get more postseason inventory. The league minimizes its importance by sending games directly to penalties in this round, but having extra time in the next rounds. This round feels too artificial.

Maybe with the calendar change MLS will adopt other standard practices, like the home-and-home tie and a proper W-D-L table.

I don't really care for the home-and-home, that set-up is because there's no real rankings in Champions League or WCQ. What's the regular season for if we don't use the rankings to sort out the home team in a playoff round.

I think the previous playoff format was fine and was not in need of changing. Single-elimination the entire way is perfectly fine. We've moved ourselves into that scenario a game early, but this is all we need IMO.

Single elimination is fine, too. Although if the league went to a home-and-home tie system, I'm sure the higher seed would get the first home game. After that, it's the usual: aggregate goals, etc.

I just like it because it saves one game. 😁

I think a lot of issues would be solved if the Supporters Shield was lifted to the same level as the MLS Cup. I'm thinking maybe a league-wide graded bonus pool for the regular season and another one for the playoffs to sweeten the pot. And if you win both, it's a domestic double with another bonus.

But that's for another time. Right now, we need to find the front of our feet against Charlotte. Woof.

I always interpreted the 3 game play off series before the sudden death games as a way to weed out most lower seed teams. In a sense giving the stronger team (normally the higher seed) a better chance to make it to the next round guaranteeing that only your best teams make it further. This eliminates the flukey upsets knocking out any 1 and 2 seeds. And if they lose in sudden death at home in the next round it’s against most likely 3 and 4 seeds instead of seeing 8 and 5 seeds.
