Hard to know who'll be good and who'll be bad next year, but on paper looks like we have a brutal schedule to start the year and a pretty easy schedule in the 2nd half.
If they're still doing the best-of-3 first round, this would put MLS Cup on December 26/27. The international window would come after Decision Day.
This schedule is also a look at what the new schedule will look at. Season ends in May and we start mid-July -- this is what the schedule in 2027-28 will look like aside from those May games will move to November.
My guess is that without having to pause for any FIFA breaks they will revert to the 2019 single elimination format everyone loved. I think that would end the season December 12 probably. They do have leeway to end later in December since the following season doesn't start until summer 2027, and they can make the mini-season any number of games they want.
So with 20 free weekends and plenty of mid week openings (admittedly a quick glance at this one) means there shouldn't be any scheduling problem in 2026.
Yeah, right.
Exactly. Every year starts with “no scheduling issues” and somehow ends with a calendar that looks like a jigsaw puzzle on fire. 2026 won’t be any different.
