2026 Season Ticket Thread (Next Year)

Because my 2026 renewal is a downgrade from my 2025 seat, my "free" ticket to the first game of the playoffs will reflect that downgrade. I can pay extra to sit in my current usual seat. Any additional home playoff games will be in my current seat at the appropriate price.

Lol and FRO NYCFC. What a sad, pathetic move.
And making more work for themselves, too!

There was no policy stated about downgrading and being moved for the free game.
Yes. I checked the email they sent in April about 2026 renewals and the free included playoff tickets and it neither mentions this policy nor forecloses it. But just don't be petty to customers.

Looking at the schedule and I have a silly question. Is MLS going to play Leagues Cup during the World Cup? I assume not but I’m trying to figure out what they will consider the 18th game as part of the season tickets?

Your invoice includes:
  • 17 MLS regular season matches
  • 1 additional match
  • The Club’s first home playoff match

International break matches between NYC and NE where both teams get a home game would satisfy that and keep the players in somewhat game shape

There appears to be two weeks in early August available, so I bet they do it then. The knockout rounds were placed in the middle of regular season games this year so I assume they'll do something similar next year.

Did anyone else see the email from yesterday? The ticket return program is gone. I emailed my rep and she confirmed it. Genuinely interested if anyone else is really annoyed by this? My seats in the champions club are literally worthless and the fact we could trade in the tickets to upgrade to the legends club is one of the only reasons we decided to keep our seats for 2026.

My email says it's back and unlimited. Though i also think there are new semi-stated limitations if you read between the lines. I don't have time to parse it out now but here's the text:

City Member Ticket Exchange Program

We are excited to introduce new benefits to our ticket exchange program! NEW for 2026, City Members will receive an unlimited amount of ticket exchanges – allowing you maximum flexibility within the 2026 season. What does this mean for you? For any matches you cannot attend, you never lose out on your ticket value to the match. Simply move your tickets to another match later in the season that best fits your schedule! See below for the 2026 Ticket Exchange Program rules and restrictions:
[td]
  • NEW: Unlimited exchanges throughout the 2026 regular season!
  • You will be able to move your tickets to an equal or lesser tier match at no additional cost.
  • If you would like to upgrade your tickets to a higher tier match, simply exchange and pay the difference at checkout.
  • You can exchange your tickets for another match up to 48 hours prior to kickoff.
  • Should you move tickets to a match, and then be unable to attend that match at a later date, you are able to move those tickets again.
  • You cannot trade more than 2 matches worth of tickets into a single match. This feature allows you to receive 3 matches worth of tickets for any single match.
  • All tickets managed through the ticket flexibility program must be utilized throughout the 2026 regular season and will not be eligible to be rolled over to playoff matches or future seasons.

Yes, you can now only exchange your seats, which you could also do before, but no longer return them. For example, before if you couldn't go to a game you could return them for a credit and use that credit to buy any other seats to almost any other game. Or, like what many people I have spoken to over the years did, use that credit to upgrade your seats for another one of your games.

Now all you can do is exchange ticket for ticket, which I personally dont see any value in. So if I cant make game A I can exchange them for tickets to game B, but I have season tickets so I already have tickets to game B.

Yeah the confusion is because you wrote they got rid of it and in my mind they downgraded it, albeit severely. But potato potato.

This is right. So the secondary market is now the return and upgrade program.

I say they got rid of it because it seems that's how most people used it, and the whole credit system is gone. They also subtly changed the wording from "trade-in program" to "exchange program".

That would be ok if my tickets had any resale value, but they dont. And I mean that literally. After I used up my six trade-ins last year I sold a game through Ticketmaster. $200 tickets and I got $16 for them.

I wouldn't be as upset if they mentioned this in May when I could have decided to downgrade my seats. I would now be better off just canceling my tickets and eating what I already paid.

Absolutely not suggesting the secondary market is a good substitute. Just that it is all we now seem to have.

I'm almost equally annoyed about how they communicated it than at the actual degradation.
Nothing in the email says you can no longer trade in your seats for a higher level, either by paying an upcharge or ticket reduction (eg trade in 4 and get 2 back). It does not even explicitly state that you are limited to trading within the same ticket class. But if you read carefully enough that's what it means.
Also, nothing explicitly says you no longer receive a net credit when trading in more expensive tickets for less. You have to infer it because it states you have to pay the net upcharge the other direction and then is silent as to an offset in your favor.

I'm also trying to figure out why they changed it. In theory the old program should have broken even for the club except for the cost of administering the exchanges. They've added unlimited exchanges which should nominally raise costs a little, and instituted the one way price offset ratchet which will save them some money, but that also seems like it should be a rounding error on their balance sheet.

The big change is the inability to upgrade. Have they been losing so much money every time someone gets to go to Legends and eat for free?

Well shit… I didn’t pay very much attention and missed the fact that they took my watch and wallet.

This sucks. I have 2 tickets for 3 people, and I can manage that very well by returning for credit and buying extras for the games I attend. This just makes it a lot more complicated.

More complicated, yes. But don't forget about the blue card. That gives you 6 matches where you can add a family member. I pretty much forget about that thing every year.

Obviously you know your use pattern better than I do, but as I understand it I would think this program is not bad for you?
AFAIK you rarely upgrade to better seats. This is my biggest assumption that if wrong, changes a lot. But if I'm right you're unaffected by what IMO is the worst change.
You are losing the ability to get credits when your trade offset is in your favor, but with 7 games each in Tiers 2 and 3 you hopefully can manage the trades to avoid this.
You now have unlimited trades which should offer significant flexibility.

You now have unlimited trades
I kind of glossed over this feature, but that's a great point. I guess in my case in theory I could just keep trading for the next match. I can't use them to upgrade (until I go to the secondary market), but I can accumulate. Maybe by midseason I'll just invite a group of 10 or 12 people and use all of those saved up tickets.

Maybe. I’d have to see the details of the season.

But instead of banking $$$ and worrying later about which games I need a 3rd ticket, I have to have figured it all out in advance. Then there’s the issue that I can only trade down, so trading in those Wednesday night tickets for the following Saturday doesn’t help.
