2027 Season Ticket Thread - Sprint Season!

Emails went out today for pricing for the exciting 14 match sprint season for the first half of 2027.

I understand they need to fill the time but

I am excited.

I agree with gbservis that a tournament style would have been more interesting. But life is short. More soccer is better. I'm happy to have the 7 (+1) home matches filling my early 2027 calendar.

One big reason I am rather down on the sprint is playing more games in baseball stadiums. I know it was a league decision, and I'm not saying they should have rushed the opening, but adding in a made up mini-season to get 7 extra games on baseball diamonds is just disheartening. We had a limit. We had a countdown. Now we have 7 more. Gee, thanks.

Winning this will feel as important as a mishmash of Leagues Cup, MLS-Is-Back and Campeones Cup. Not winning will just mean another season of not winning. And if somehow we don't win MLS Cup in 2026, or after 2027-28, but win the sprint, I'll just be annoyed. Not even Portland fans think their MiB trophy counts for anything. What will this trophy be called, anyway?

Finally, this is specific to me, but I'm 99+% certain I'm one and done in the new stadium. This season feels like a way to extract another few hundred bucks from me under duress.

Can I get some broccoli ice cream to help wash all this deliciousness down?

I'm glad not everyone shares my unhappiness on this. But I really don't care, at all.

My reading of the announcement was they are calling it MLS Cup and awarding a star on the jersey for it, did anyone see differently?

I want my brick, and then we'll see where it goes after that. I still have fun at games, so there's that.

Wow, you're right. It was in the March 19 email, not the one yesterday. They've defined the 14 game season and ensuing playoffs as equal to a normal season and the trophy as MLS Cup. They make the definitions so this will take.

My POV is I've never had an issue with short seasons counting, including: all sports in 2020, the NFL that time they played with replacement players, numerous baseball seasons in the 80s and 90s that were short and often disjointed due to labor stoppages, etc. You make the best of a bad, unwanted situation. This is prescheduled and by design and I hate it. But again, they own the league and the IP so if they says it's an MLS Cup it's an MLS Cup. I still don't want to win it unless we win the one before or very soon after. If it's a +1, great. But if NYCFC gets just one cup in the next decade I want it to be any one but the stupid one.

I small part of me hopes Philly wins the cup during the shortened season so their fans have to deal with endless astrix comments.

If the winner gets a star it's going to be regarded as a normal title very soon for all but the most committed banterers. Especially since as Mark notes it will make the years line up.
