BC Place isnt exactly soccer specific, yet it makes the list ?
My guess is the Canadian federation is really pissed off at MLS, so MLS is being extra sweet to the Canadian clubs wherever possible.

I also don't think it's a coincidence that Rachel Bonnetta, a Canadian, is the new face of MLS Now.

This thread unintentionally makes two great points.
1.) We should not rush into building a stadium just so that we have an SSS, we need to do it right!
2.) It has to be in the City with at least reasonable transit access.

We don't want to end up with some of those SSS' (specifically the Toyota's, Dick's, and PPL; I'll give the Crew a pass because of when they built it and what that venue actually means to MLS, and i'll take a wait and see on that high-school football stadium in San Jose) which are either way out of the way, absolutely terribly built, or both.

Pretty much and I think MLS have finally learned this.

I understood the rationale back then of getting out of an nfl stadium ASAP, but by doing so most of those teams will forever be held back and to be honest will never recover unless they move.

Heck even the Galaxy could be doing much better if it wasn't stuck in Carson.

Thing is though without these SSS in the suburbs maybe MLS wouldn't have managed to survived for all the new teams to take advantage of.

DC united looks like it struck gold and im sure the stadium reinvigorates a fan base that has long suffered. I also hope that the Revs can see the benefit of a downtown stadium now and aren't afraid to bankroll it knowing that MLS isn't going broke anytime soon.

LAFC look like they will have a great location for a stadium, Minnesota also. Sacramento if they get in will have a nice spot as well. Orlando looks good and San Jose isnt that bad either.

Which leaves NYCFC. They cant afford to mess it up and id rather they stick with yankee stadium until they find the perfect spot then move into the suburbs.

Its not just laid over top, its slid over top, meaning that the latitude for all countries is correct.

So as you can see, most of Europe is North of New York but most of Europe is warmer than New York during the winter.

If global warming effects the jetstream, well, the Euros won't be playing soccer through the winter anymore!

Very cool list. What is it with North Americans stadiums and not having a full roof? The new Quakes stadium has one all the way around, but doesn't cover the first 15 rows. Wtf? Why?

Here are a couple of maps I made a little while back that show how spread out North American soccer really is in relation to Europe. It has MLS, NASL and USL. It's a couple of years old, so it's not 100% accurate.

Putting a roof on a big stadium is actually quite a big challenge. So is putting in a retractable roof. Adding these features jacks the price up considerably because they're hard work for the construction company. Add on top of that that many types of grass need to be exposed to the elements to ensure that they don't deteriorate rapidly (depends on the type of grass and the weather on how much) which means that they can't afford to pick that option anyway. On top of that, FIFA and possibly some other governing bodies have specific rules preventing stadia from being used if they have closed rooves (although retractable rooves are allowed), adding further discouragement.
