Barclays Premier League 15/16

MCvEve. City had a nice opportunity in the 2' for Aguero. Save from Timmy Howard.
I'm pulling for Everton in this one for two reasons. I don't have any passion for any EPL side, so I often support the team with an American on the pitch. For the same reason above, not having a team, my interest in the EPL relies upon a competitive top of the table so we can set up some exciting late season matches. It's early, but I would like to keep MC from running away.

I have to make an admission.
I was hoping Chelsea would lose to West Brom so we could watch Mourinho melt down because his side was in The Relegation Zone.

No such luck.
OH WELL!

It's hard to improve on this tweet. Danny Drinkwater, drinking water.

In related developments, US players and fans are laughing at the English taking water breaks with temps in the lo to mid-80s.

In fairness, the reason they stopped is because FIFA rules say that a game has to be stopped for a drinks break if temperatures go above 30C.

That said, we're just not used to hot temperatures. On Saturday I walked to town and back (about 20 minutes each way) and it was only about 25C (77F) out, if slightly humid. By the time I got home, I was really feeling the heat and had to get a cool drink and sit under a fan for an hour to cool off, and that was at 5 degrees below the temperature at some of the day's matches, when I hadn't been sprinting around a pitch. Even Pedro, who had just flown in from Spain (which is a lot hotter than the UK, of course) said he wasn't prepared for how hot it was that day.

Edit: My bad, it was Xherdan Shaqiri coming in from Switzerland (where it still can get quite hot, in spite of its snow-capped mountain geography), not Pedro.

The 30 °C water requirement is equal to 86° F. I wonder if MLS follows this. I think I'd see more water breaks than I have.
And we Americans are sort of required to make fun of Europeans not handling heat to counter Europeans sneering at us for using too much air conditioning. The fact is it's just hotter and more humid here in the summer, including in regions that are frozen solid all winter.

The water breaks are based on a WetBulb calculation. The WetBulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) is a measure of the heat stress in direct sunlight, which takes into account: temperature, humidity, wind speed, sun angle and cloud cover (solar radiation). If it's >86°F on the WBGT they're required to take a water break now.

I haven't recapped after this weekend's slate of fixtures, but the 'only 6 teams with home wins' statistic going in has been interesting to watch play out. Yesterday West Ham beat Liverpool at Anfield for the first time since the 1960's

I've missed that discussion. Is the point that after 3 weeks only 3 teams have won a home game? And if soo did the number go up this week?

Yeah, going into week 4, only Man United, City, Liverpool, Palace, Leicester and Swansea had won at home (not sure how many wins total between those 6 teams, I'd have to look it up). Even after this week's fixtures, the only team you can add to that list is Southampton.

And another nice win for your team today over Man U

Edit: I think it was 6 teams with 6 home wins total, now 7 teams with 8 wins

Weird top of the table too. Obviously it's very early and the teams that can afford to spend for depth will rise over time, but right now it's like ManC has built a buffer zone between it and the teams you would expect to challenge them.

Swans take down Manchester United 2-1! Past 3 games have ended 2-1 in favor of the Jacks.

While losing Man U fans resorted to cheering about how awful Man City is. Lol
