Speaking of SAS, im trying to imagine him sitting on the bench when Sweat is getting downright abused and the coach doesn’t put him in. Wasn’t SAS SKC’s defender of the year a few seasons ago and now he can’t get a sniff when the starting LB is getting corkscrewed around? Sigh.

One of the two right backs played on the left this year when Sweat and Mata were out, and acquitted himself well. Still, only one game. Sweat has had good games too.

Fullback is the hardest position for switching sides. I don't remember seeing a team whose right backs could even compete at left back with their starter, and we have no reason to believe NYCFC is different.

If we are gonna play inverted full backs, I think Kwame or Ofori would be interesting there.

Straying from the topic a little bit but I hate the fact that "inverted" for wingers means a change in role based on footedness and side of the pitch but for fullbacks it usually just means different tactical instructions (as you correctly used it here). Kwame and Ofori are both left footed, so they wouldn't be inverted in the winger sense if they played as inverted left backs—but most modern "inverted fullbacks" are playing on the side of their preferred foot. There are good defensive reasons not to play right-footed players at left back, I just felt like kvetching about nomenclature.

Interesting. I've always thought of it as directional vs. footedness. Fun to think of Robben as an inverted left winger moonwalking the ball to his preferred shooting position and inevitably scoring though.
