I had a year of Howler. EASILY one of the best magazines I have ever subscribed to. The content is great, the design is great and the print quality is top notch. I really reccomend it.
I'm also into 8x8. I think the quality of journalism might beat Howler out, marginally. It's not quite The Blizzard, but they have a similar line up of writers. Howler have a cleaner aesthetic and more of a US-centric perspective (intentionally).
Great; so I ordered the current edition, and if I like it I'll put in for a year's subscription. Thanks to all. Guess I'll try the pods too, but to be honest I'm already subscribed to 3 NYCFC podcasts (blue city radio, cooligans, and NYCFC Fan podcast), Men in Blazers, and All Departments (about my now beloved Cherries from the south coast) - not to mention my NYCFC youtube subscriptions. The problem is not not enough hours in the day, but I have to re-charge my bluetooth headset too often. And my New Yorker weeklys are piling up.
But you can buy one issue for $15, which I have done to see whether it is worthwhile. I have not heard anything negative about it, and I have already listened to a few of their pods, which have been interesting and insightful. $50 a year is less than 1/2 of the cost of an authentic jersey, but quite a bit on an issue by issue basis. If the one off is nice, I'll probably subscribe.
