Jersey postmatch

Aguero makes a lot of sense - they have Gabriel Jesus primed to take over. He's also not first choice Argentina MNT, so coming here wouldn't derail his chances at selection. And being friends with Maxi probably doesn't hurt either.
Except that he's said he's going back to Argentina in 2019.

Serious best hope, if you forced me to pick a name: Sergio Aguero

But I don't know if even he has Villa's heart.

ETA - maybe Suarez? But a large part of his reason for going to Barca was to be near his wife's family, so that might be a total non-starter.

Good news is that WCF is next summer, so I'd say look for playmaking forwards around 30ish right now.

Reunite the U20 Argentina World Cup Squad: Maxi and Sergio

I would be shocked if the DP that replaced Villa was a big name player. They want to go the Maxi route moving forward.

So they say. Of course, your source is 0-for-career.

(Not to say you shouldn't share it. But I mean, the guy does have a shitty record so far.)

Appointment viewing for all 27 minutes.
My favorite part is Villa giving Harrison the armband when subbed off. And then around 23:58 after the game, Harrison gives the armband back to Villa. Also the Villa-Vieira embrace.

The player replacing Villa could be a "minor" DP (like Maxi) - young, or less known - because there's every possibility the player replacing Pirlo is the "big" DP. Get the person here for a year with Villa and then if Villa retires, the reigns are handed over. The rotation could be 2big/1minor with 1big/2minor depending on contracts and who's available.

Then again, there's every possibility with the adidas $$ kicking in next season, we could have 4DPs & multiple TAM players. At any rate, I cannot ever see NYCFC having no massively skillful star players - CFG will always want to cash in on the field success and marketing ability.

Good on NYCFC to show just about every single blatant NJ foul in slow motion.

Well, make it 3 penalties missed. If you watch the behind the scenes, very good shout for a PK on Sweat at 16:45.

If he didn't look so gangly, say, if he moved more like a forward, that's a penalty 100% of the time. Touches it away from defender who then clips him down. Point to the spot all day everyday with minimum competence from Wilmer.

I guess most of you know by now the story of the girl who escorted Ring onto the pitch, and went to meet the fans at the end. She's 9 yrs old Finnish girl, who's had cancer since she was two, and her treatments have now been ended as the doctors have found no cure. Her last wish was to see the Statue of Liberty. Ring invited her to a home game, and her trip to US was crowdfunded. To accidentally pick just this game must mean it became an ever-lasting memory for her. Sadly, that memory won't last very long.

Saw this, really sad. Ring was super supportive and seemed to be her escort everywhere on the day.

Oh wow, I was completely unaware and just assumed that that was his kid on the field. Is there a story on this somewhere?

Sorry to be a party pooper. After the initial emotional excitement and pride cooled down, I began to wonder what this team is like without Villa. The vision scares me a lot. Villa is not that easily replaceable: he checks off every box we can asks for at this stage of his career without serious injuries so far.
Whom out there can replace him in every way shape or form after 1 or 2 years? I see no one. Not even CR7 or Messi can carry a team like this. Maybe Vidal (but he is not a scorer/finisher)

Can't believe somehow I manage to get myself depressed after this game...lol

That's not what they're saying in public:
“We have some star players right now, and that will always be part of what we’re about. The key is picking the right players, and David Villa is the best example of that,” says Glick.
