We are not an official chapter (The Third Rail is still building a larger "base" of supporters but we have been in communication with them.). A "subsidiary" refers to being within the Third Rail, which as a SG, is an umbrella group.
Our hope would be that the Third Rail has official chapters for long-term growth and support for the club. We would want to be an official chapter, which would help SISC get even more members in the TR (and supporters for NYCFC) at the many soccer-related events on Long Island. LI has a tremendous youth soccer league and the game continues to grow in all areas here (which does include support for the Cosmos and the Red Bulls but our hope is that SISC provides a NYCFC presence here).
I will speak for others in SISC in saying that Long Island is different than the five boroughs in relation to layout, transportation, etc. For my friends further east on LI, it is much more difficult to be at YS for matches. The SISC is going to provide a network of other supporters for them (and for individuals into soccer). We just started a little more than a month ago and just sent out a first email, but you can kind of see how it can be huge positive for all involved.
We are behind all of the other SGs as well and want a positive relationship with anyone that is for our club. But after joining the TR and meeting with others here, it could be win/win for all involved if we became an official chapter. As I wrote, we have been in communication with the TR and fully support them right now as a small group within their larger SG. But as the TR continues to build, we hope the TR Board develops the concept of a LI Chapter, along with chapters in CT and other areas surrounding NYC.
