Gray and O’Toole were off tonight and were at fault for two goals.

How embarrassing. If not for Nico and a VAR call, we would have lost that game. Freese is getting hung out to dry a bit and Poch might be thinking.. "uh.. is this guy gonna be ok as my #1?"
Not having any competition for Gray is showing, I think. Granted he has been playing a lot but he's not as sharp and doesn't seem to be trying as hard since in the back of his mind, he knows there's no one else to take his spot. He was responsible for at least one goal (I think it was the 2nd?) where he should have sprinted back to cover the danger man who was behind martins (who also did a poor job marking said man). As a backtracking defender, gray saw it all though and only jogged back instead of hurried back.
Defending was poor. We ball watch way too much and just aren't aware of where attackers are. Set piece defending is atrocious, imo. Simply not hungry enough to get to and clear the ball.
We need to get parks back into the lineup. Gustavo just plays too much. I would much rather Trewin be back there.

I'm having trouble shaking this one off. It's easy to blame the thin squad, or the sub decisions with the upcoming schedule congestion. But damn giving up goals in the 92' and 95', I mean what happened to bulletproof mentality? Very similar feel to giving up the equalizer at home to St. Louis in the 96'. I'm not sure how much is tactical and how much is mentality, but I'm not content to say it's just quality/depth. We should have been able to secure the 3 points one way or another with the players on the field. Up two goals after 90 minutes ffs.
Something is definitely up. The players are definitely getting talked to or maybe even yelled at. But where is that aggression and desire to finish off the game and get those 3 points? Up 4-2, ok. Players probably got a little complacent thinking they're up 2 with only stoppage time to go. But soon as it was 4-3, that should have lit a fire under their asses and made them defend like their lives depended on it. But they did not.
Is it complacency? Is the lack of squad depth and therefore, lack of competition for positions, making players too comfortable? Whatever it is, it needs to get fixed. If I were Jansen I would be absolutely livid and screaming at the players in the locker room.

The third goal is unacceptable. No reason a consolidated team just let that rando walk into his shot so slowly. O’Toole is just a silly mistake that you can’t explain.
