Slap on the wrist. I hope Suarez is having a bad day.
3 games??? WTF. MLS is a joke. he should have been banned for the remainder of the season. others should have also gotten suspensions and fines too. absolute JOKE. if this were any other team, it would have been 10 games easy.
This is an MLS suspension. Leagues Cup issued their own.
how does this makes sense? i read its not a concacaf tournament so they cant punish? but it qualifies you to CCL? also how is it not an MLS tournament since MLS is sure part of it. even if its a "separate" tournament? they are a stakeholder in this.
right. but the leagues cup suspension is essentially moot because he'll never play in another leagues cup. so MLS needed to hand out a punishment that fit the crime because what it hands out WILL matter.
Anyone know what Lenhart did?
3 games seems fine to me.
3 games was also Clint Dempsey's suspension when he got his US Open Cup suspension in 2015.
I was curious about this too. The most information I can find is from a Sounders fan's explanation on Reddit:
This tracks with the fact that Seattle was fined for misappropriation of credentials. So I'd say the penalty for Lenhart is so harsh because he wasn't appropriately credentialed as a coach to be on the sideline, and then he went out onto the pitch and got involved. Combine that with no CBA/Union to protect coaches, and his penalty is by far the harshest.
That explains the suspension (at least in terms of technicalities). But it doesn't explain why Suarez was so batshit for him. I know it may not take much to make Suarez go a little nuts. But I'm still curious what he did that set him off.
