538 really thinks NYCFC is poop at home compared to RBNJ and Atlanta.

538 really thinks NYCFC is poop at home compared to RBNJ and Atlanta.

I think it's also based on quality of the opponent. Toronto (when healthy) is likely better than Portland and Dallas when on the road. And noted 538's algorithm isn't the best for MLS as it's mainly based on transfers which is better for European based football.

Interesting one tonight with Red Bulls vs. Dallas.

You'd think to root for Dallas unless you look at the Supporters' Shield race. Do we care about the CCL spot or Supporters' Shield more?

Ummm, this has to be a no-brainer to root for Dallas. NJ affects CCL, Eastern playoff picture, still has an effect on SS, and is our rival.

We play NJ twice more. If we can’t take care of business head to head, then we don’t really deserve it, right? I’d rather Dallas get knocked down below us since we’ve already had our head to head with them.

Tyler Adams wins a 50-50 ball, races to the end line and passes to BWP, 1-0.

5 minutes later, after video review, Royer receives a red card after the initial call was a yellow. Robert Sibiga is the referee.

Royer will miss Red Bulls next match at Toronto on 7/1

I mean, not necessarily. It's possible that NJ gets our number this year, but we play well against other teams. Or something happens such as an early red in one of those games that leads to missed points. Or, even if we beat them twice, perhaps NJ turns it on everywhere else so that our wins against them doesn't carry us above them.

Mostly, (and saying this out loud seems a bit silly I realize since our rooting has 0 effect on the outcome) but rooting for Dallas seems to be counting our chickens before they hatch a bit. Dallas very well may not end up being a CCL contending team later (just lost Nedyalkov). Even outside of our rivalry with NJ, they are 0.01 PPG behind us and very well could jump ahead of us (even if we beat them twice) for one of the playoff byes.

I don't see how this isn't a no-brainer

Red Bulls have scored more down a man than up a man. It's 3-0 after Lawrence scores two minutes after the start of the second half. Red Bulls will move to 29 points, 1 point above NYCFC with equal games played. We're now sitting in 3rd in the East.

Thanks for nothing FC Dallas.

Dallas’s record has been built on an overload of home games and easy road games. Their only tough road opponents to date have been us and RB.

Down 0-2 to Houston, Kansas City roar back to 3-2 win. The game winner scored in the 88' by...

...Khiry Shelton.

To be fully fair to all of us, there’s no way we’ll ever know if he was trying to take that first time or settle it.
Typically he’d attempt a pass in that situation, no?

In all seriousness though, of his few tallies, he has scored some key goals in box. They’re like endangered species - you never think you’ll see one in your lifetime but when it happens, you’re left impressed.

Because they are a mis-touch I believe.
