Ha! Awesome stuff. I love it.

I shamelessly pulled my online nickname from the local Alumni Club for the University of Florida - the Gotham Gators. The club name goes back to the late 80s - predating the TV series. Still, I feel I have to check the TV series out. My kid loves the animated Batman shows.

Oddly, on UF forums, I am generally referred to as "Gotham" - here, the shorthand is "Gator". Whatever makes you stand out, I guess.

We're named after New York, Gotham is a nickname for New York. Gotham City. Simple.

I see your point, but I know there are plenty of NYCFC fans that love the nickname of Pigeons (myself included), so its not like they are necessarily making it up.

You have the NYCFC Pigeon who has gained some social media attention (and is also a really nice, cool guy), along with video appearances in NYCFC videos (and the first derby video done by FOX I believe), and the Third Rail waves a flag during the games with a pigeon on it.

Edit: I respect there are those that don't like the nickname, and thats fine, I just wanted to point out that the other fans and journalists aren't completely off base using that nickname.

Holy crap, the Eastern Bluebird is such an obvious mascot. I liked Pigeons for it's organic growth, but would love to see the Bronx Bluebirds catch on.

Copying the plumage would make an awesome kit too.
