The comparison to our vs Real Madrid's is night and day. Madrid's is just a circle with the letters in it and a crown on top. NYCFC is based on the NYC subway tokens which has two concentric circles with writing in between them and NYC in the center. Plus we do have two pentagons in the same position as those pyramids and real Madrid has nothing of the sort. The only differences between ours and Memphis is the name (obviously) the color, the pyramids and the specific sizing and placement of the center letters. Everything else is basically shot for shot.

That being said, I don't care if they did copy it, it's really not a big deal. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

The Memphis letters don't interlock. Ours do and so does Madrid.
Our font is closer to RM than Memphis (but they're all different).
Memphis has two colors, we have 3. Madrid also has 3.

I just remember seeing someone wearing a RM jersey on the subway a few months ago and it struck me that there was a sort-of, kind of, similarity to the logos, aside from the major difference of the crown. Never suggested we ripped them off. Had the same reaction to Memphis and us.

Memphis City are using it in the English way, the city's name is just Memphis unlike New York the Name of the City is New York City. For them City is being used as a name to differentiate them form the city, NYC are just using New York's full name.

It's actually suppose to be a Yankee influence that is why it has the interlocking NYC, it's a New Yorker thing. i.e. Yankees, Mets, the old Giants when they where

...yeah, it's basically an exact copy of the outer circle, right down the the "FOOTBALL CLUB" bit, isn't it?


Edit: I also went onto their website and found this, which is what they say is the inspiration of the badge/name:

• Most will recognize the name was derived from Manchester City
• The color combination is part AS Roma and some of our own preferences
• The pyramids are were added out of respect for our city’s namesake – Memphis, Egypt
  
  We wanted something a bit different. Orange is not a color that is used very often and is usually associated with the TN Vols. However, many teams use a blue, green, etc… we wanted something that stood out and was a little more unpredictable – which is what we want on the pitch.

I will at least give them a tip of the fedora for the color scheme. I always thought Roma's colors/kits were without a doubt the best in the world.
