Flipped to the Yankees-Twins game, the Yankees had bases loaded and a ground ball hit down the first base line. The first basemen missed the ball and the Yankees scored the run. The discussion for the next three minutes was about the field and how the MLS team playing there, once referred to as NYCFC, tears up the infield and causes the dirt to be uneven. Then they go to Mark Teixira in the studio, who remained silent mostly as a Yankee, but shit on the soccer team now as an ESPN analyst saying that it's dangerous and scary playing first base at Yankee Stadium and that the field has been terrible since the soccer team moved in.

This is important. Very important, until we leave Yankee Stadium for our own stadium.

This has been a concern for a long time in baseball of fans being struck by foul balls and bats and being seriously injured. MLB has no liability and doesn't and won't pay for any medical bills for the patient. We see the net behind home plate never going down for MLS matches. If the net goes from foul pole to foul pole, that would serious hinder the enjoyment of NYCFC matches for a majority of the fans.

MLB has no liability and doesn't and won't pay for any medical bills for the patient. We see the net behind home plate never going down for MLS matches. If the net goes from foul pole to foul pole, that would serious hinder the enjoyment of NYCFC matches for a majority of the fans.

I watch part of the game through the net in Delta. I don't find it that big a deal. I also won't pretend it's nothing, and I could imagine that others would reasonably find it much more annoying than I do. I guess I'm saying that if this happens, don't decide it's going to be the worst thing in the world until you experience it. If you want to decide it's hideously bad after that, have at it.

Due to the lesser proximity to home plate, i'd imagine they can make the extended portion of the net more transparent. It would still suck either way, but would not be as bad as behind the current net.

If the Yankees are in anyway hindering NYCFC's move to Queens they need to be bought out ASAP. When a gift like this falls in your lap, you take it and don't ask questions. We've spent 3 years on this thread just discussing how hard it is find a suitable site for a stadium in the city AND get political approval to build it. It's looking like we may have both. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

If they extend the netting, odds are the netting will only extend to the outside corner of each dugout. The Yankees will not put netting up from foul pole to foul pole.

It also probably won't be that high, because all they need to do is protect people from line drives. So the netting probably won't be anywhere as high as it is behind the plate.
