Stadium Discussion

State Assemnly just approved Air Train from Willets to LaGuardia. (That whole Willets transit hub thing to go along with the redevelopment of the area) Now onto the state senate. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a developer in place to get the whole WP project on its way.

Mockup of the proposal with the LIRR in City Blue and a stadium shaped station in Willets Point, it's happening.

There's literally nothing else this could be so Willets Point is 100% confirmed.
Apple has a donut shaped headquarters.... are we sure they aren’t moving it to Willets Point? Seems like this would confirm that too, no?

I’ve always thought Apple’s logo would be perfect on our jersey - what better tie-in to the city’s nickname?!?

The problem with LGA and JFK is getting between terminals. Will that air train stop at every one? And will they be circling our stadium all the time?
Don't quote me on this, but I believe the PANYNJ has in their plans for all of the new terminals at both airports to also be connected for foot traffic... not that it'd be much fun to walk from future JFK T3 to future JFK T7, but going from T1->T3 or T4->T5 would be faster to hoof it.

So, further from Manhattan than RBA, then
Think about how easy it is for a visiting fan to fly in, go straight to the match, and then straight back to the airport for the return flight. It’ll cut out the taxi/hotel expenses and we’d soon have a huge bump in attendance from Away fans. At CFG, we’re revolutionizing the match travel experience!

Why is Manhattan always used as a focal point when distance is brought up? Do all New Yorkers live in Manhattan or something? I could've sworn Queens is the most populated borough...
come on man, kindergarten factoids every NYer should know..... Brooklyn #1 population, Queens #1 land area. Manhattan is smallest but most dense. Bronx only borough connected to mainland. Staten island.... absolutely nothing notable, which i guess is its own special feature.

Manhattan is the nexus for all mass transit (save for the G Line). Anybody living in another borough has to consider the transit time from Manhattan.

In related news, Etihad Airways is losing oodles of money.

That's my point, it's not the whole trip. People say RBA is 15 minutes away from Manhattan but that doesn't include the starting point people are coming from.

None of the Gulf carriers are doing well. Been that way for the last 1-2 years. Just hemorrhaging money on new aircraft for semi empty routes.

Joe Crowley loses the Democratic primary to a young, progressive newcomer in the New York 14th district. The 14th covers Willets Point.

Typically you don't see federal representatives get involved with local real estate, but all I see now in Willets Points development is affordable housing.

EDIT: I honestly knew nothing about her, but I'm reading more and more and currently watching the NY1 debate that was had and I'm now completing writing off Willets Points as a stadium issue. She even spoke out against Moya passing something real estate related. Screw affordable housing, she wants a commune paid for by the government.

Biggest upset since Cantor lost in 2014. Huge deal for Democrats. Would have been the next Speaker.

He already endorsed her campaign in his concession speech.

It's hard to say right now what this could mean for Willet's Point, because it's going to change things across the city in so many ways. I'm fascinated to see what kind of shape the Queens political landscape takes today.
Given how infrequently Crowley was connected to this project (if he ever was a single time), hard to see how it matters at all.

Pretty certain that no iteration of this was every getting Federal funding...
