Like peak oil, peak stadium thread is likely to come much, much later than we imagine. That was in an article not a press release.
Also, the article clearly states that both potential plans are open: one with a stadium and one without. It also says the non-stadium option is easier: "vetting plans for a soccer stadium would be more involved."
And from this article we collectively jump to assuming a definite stadium, that sells out, with a USL that is poised to overtake MLS, and Villa and his Super Friends all coming to play in 15k stadia around the country, because that's what both the US soccer fans and world soccer superstars have always wanted: a 15k B-league stadium in Queens. Oh, and somehow this all also proves that NYC has secretly failed in the Bronx but the NY real estate community is conspiring to keep that deal collapse under wraps. And, and, and CFG is looking for an excuse to sell NYCFC.
This is peak Stadium thread, and a bizarre combination of assuming both our worst fears and fondest wishes are all coming true at the same time.
You know, you're right, it really isn't. Seems I search for our stadium 17 times a year but somehow keep ending up in a baseball stadium for some reason. Not going well at all.It strikes me that the stadium search is not going well.
But how many views before Manchester City announces it?Stadium thread will hit 1,000,000 views before we get an announcement from the club.
I’m afraid there might be a compliment to sweat in here somewhere. And I’ll be damned if I let it go unchecked. He is the supreme, extra-cheesiest version of shit on a pitch ever.Yes, the Ben Sweat that got a National Team call-up months ago. Anyone who has paid attention and was interested in soccer already saw Villa play 5 years ago and probably his decline in form. All of Villa's friends are retiring or close to it. This is really the last thing I'd worry about. It's hard enough getting any sort of popular talent to come to the States, but to play in our second division without pro/rel?
Anyone who thinks the club is not interested in getting the stadium issue resolved is nuts.https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/mls/article225609050.html
“There’s only one other facility that has done it, and that’s Yankee Stadium with New York FC. The difference there is there’s an equity piece with the Yankees and that particular team,” Bowers said. “There’s a million-dollar-a-game commitment by the team to the Yankees to overcome some of those operational challenges, none of which we think is really in the cards here given the conversations we’ve had with MLS Miami.”
CFG has already paid $68 million to the Yankees for conversion. Yikes.
Ughhh“There’s only one other facility that has done it, and that’s Yankee Stadium with New York FC.
Agreed that it really makes no sense in any respect. Like those string along like the Revs suggestions.Anyone who thinks the club is not interested in getting the stadium issue resolved is nuts.
You can think they've handled it poorly; complain all you want about the time it is taking.
But the idea the club is happy to stay at YS is ridiculous.
There’s a flip side to that too, that while CFG is committed to finding a site, if WP isn’t a solution and the Bronx (or elsewhere) isn’t panning out, there’s going to be a tipping point where this $1m/games becomes a never-ending albatross. ~10+ years of rent payment plus a new $500m stadium is tough to swallow. That’s part of why I suggested in the QFC discussion that CFG *may* look to offload if a near-term stadium project isn’t viable.Anyone who thinks the club is not interested in getting the stadium issue resolved is nuts.

Yes, 10 years plus probably means fold or sell are better options which means they certainly have been/are all in on the search. The club may be looking at 10 years at this point as a min before opening a stadium. 3+ years of design/construction plus any regulatory and/or community reviews for the other 1-2 years.Yes, 10 years plus probably means fold or sell are better options which means they certainly have been/are all in on the search.
That's consistent with my 5 year to announce/10 year to move in comfort level/expectation I had during season 1, so I hope that I was close to on track. The club may be looking at 10 years at this point as a min before opening a stadium. 3+ years of design/construction plus any regulatory and/or community reviews for the other 1-2 years.
