Stadium Discussion

Key quote for me:

The difference in premium business might be biggest for NYCFC, which, Sims said, expects 20X growth from where it is now. That will be augmented by events-hosting businesses that will keep various parts of all three new stadiums busy year-round, with hundreds of bar and bat mitzvahs, concerts, European soccer friendlies or even the LA28 Olympics, in the case of Etihad Park.

“Those are completely new business units for us, and pieces of inventory that you just don’t have access to as a tenant,” Sims said.

Key quote for me:
I read this has hundreds of bar and bat mitzvahs. You can only have 52 bar/bat mitzvahs at one location a year right? It has to be on Saturday.

I expect they could handle more than 1 on the same day in different club rooms. I'm less certain they can book 3-4 every single Saturday.

Not stadium article but the quotes from Sims are stadium focused:

Summary listed from reddit as I accidentally clicked out of my one free article for the month after reading:

  • NYCFC will be among the most engaged clubs in the league’s hospitality sales partnership with On Location.. While clubs will earn nominal sales commission on any packages they sell, CEO Brad Sims sees World Cup hospitality as a lure to reel in potential premium ticket buyers and corporate partners for the club’s forthcoming stadium.

Do they have a big name signing planned for some time around the WC? Using the WC to get premium ticket buyers seems like a tall task without any recognizable players on the roster.

It says "all three stadiums" - so, I think they can get to a pretty high number.

It seems like kind of an odd thing to do in a stadium, but I am certainly no expert.

no, bar/bat mitzvah itself is just the day someone turns 12 (girl) and 13 (boy). the celebration (what people say as "having a bar/bat mitzvah") can be whenever you want it to be. (if someone is reading from the torah/bible then that part would be monday or thursday or saturday, and they likely wouldn't be doing that part at a stadium) Mine was over a month after my actual birthday because my birthday is in the summer and everyone was away at summer camp at the time.

Hundreds of events including bar/bat mitzvahs, concerts, friendlies, etc.

For the record, I had a (very rich) friend who rented out the floor at MSG for his bar mitzvah party. Kind of seems like a weird place for it, but if you're doing a kid's party it's definitely possible to rent out the stadium for it. This team will take money from anyone, they'll happily take that deal.

NYCFC is about to be raking in cash with all these new revenue streams. Heads up minor league teams of Europe. NYCFC's about to have cash to burn and they are looking for some hot unknown second division players to spend it on!

I don't care what events they rent the stadium out for as long as the grass stays pristine and untouched while we still need to play on it. I do not want an LAFC situation where their playing surface is ripped to shreds due to concerts and what not, on top of sharing it with angel FC.

Yea, that will reduce the amount of possible income but our team's playing success should be the undisputed priority.

The nice thing about the schedule change is that the majority of outdoor concerts are in the summer, so if we are hosting concerts in June, July & August, they won't be a major issue for the majority of the season. Hopefully we will hire a good groundskeeper who knows what they're doing.

And that answers one of the big topics of debate on this forum!
