Stadium Discussion

My slot opened up today, besides Wheelchair accessible seats, all other tickets for all the matches at Etihad were unavailable. Hopefully they were not picked up by fans not bots/scalpers. (But there were tickets for St. Louis and Nashville).

Yeah I got a slot today and got nothing. Etihad was all sold out, and everything else I wanted was either unavailable, or only the category 1 tickets available.

Apparently they'll release more tickets in future drops, so maybe we'll get lucky then.

I swear, the sports organizers really have only one opinion of Americans - walking cash registers. Those prices, like the World Cup, are insane.

We are a sick society.
Yep - cash registers.

As a comparison, women’s figure skating tickets (the premium event in the recent Milan Olympics) was 700 euros for the most expensive seats - I think cheapest was 200 euros. Ridiculous.

Hope I'm in the right thread here.... previously explained my (reluctant) decision to purchase seats in the new East Side Club despite the jacked up prices just to keep supporting the team somewhat close to current seats at YS.

Got this unexpected message from my rep today:
I wanted to reach out personally regarding your East Club seats at Etihad Park. An opportunity has recently opened up that allows us to offer seats closer to the centerline at a reduced price point compared to what has previously been available.

Are sales slowing/disappointing? Anyone else have any insights?

Pure speculation on my part, but wouldn’t shock me at all if sales suck. I don’t know who the club thinks they are and the foothold they think they have within the city. The prices are exuberant and insulting to the common fan. I’ve held out this long so I’ll keep getting season tickets for at least the first year of the new stadium, but if they don’t start showing some initiative and urgency to fix this Swiss cheese of a roster I’m done.

I think this is the first indication we have that sales are not altogether stellar. But it could be limited to what the rep indicated, i.e. the best seats within a specific lower end premium section. Unless they lied (and they might have lied but we have no evidence for that) the super expensive sections sold out rather easily. But they seem to have pushed too hard when pricing the high end of the low premium experience. The East Side club does not provide free parking or all inclusive food. Folks will only pay so much for that.

The good news I suppose is this could temper their pricing on the best non-Club seats.

The cost of the East Side club seats is probably the most ridiculous out of any of the premium seats. It’s a significant charge to just have a sideline seat (yes, I know it’s cushioned and slightly larger) and I’ve struggled mentally with the desire to have seats and what it would cost. Also, the multiple year contracts and how prices escalate year to year is large. I haven’t done the calculations but it does feel like it outpaces annual raise rates at work.

I’m very much on board with twsj91 that it might end up being a one and done.

It's not a surprise that the richy rich seats sold out fast, because for these big companies or rich owners it's not a significant enough difference. The target of the lower premium (and even the regular seats tbh) are the ones really looking at budget, so I can't say I'm shocked if they really aren't able to sell at their pricing.

They keep saying the "We want to make expensive tickets more expensive so that cheaper seats can stay cheap"... so when a base ticket price for normal fans ends up being like $70/game.......

Yeah its going to be very interesting what their definition of "Cheaper" is. The biggest issue with any "They keep saying" statement about NYCFC is that the person doing the saying is Brad Sims and he's proven time an again that his primary concern is messaging spin that often ends up mismatched with the teams actual actions. Remember this:

They are on-pace to do exactly what the Yankees did in 2009 & 2010. They way overvalued their premium/legends tickets and cut the prices in half very quickly.

I wouldn't be surprised if NYCFC is forced to do the same with their premium tickets. They are way, way overpriced.

I do think general seating areas will sell out rather quickly and we will have sellouts for every game, but they are definitely way out over their skis on premium pricing.

I think they will ultimately end up in the Yankees situation, but it won't happen as fast. NYCFC has novelty of the first soccer stadium going for them and a much lower cost of entry. Even the most expensive seats in Ethiad park are fractions of the cost of premium Yankees season tickets. It's a drop in the bucket for corporations to buy up those seats and get in on the new novelty in town. 2-3 years in when NYCFC still has no one on the team a non-MLS fan has even heard of and all these premium corp accounts are getting a no thanks from every client they offer tickets to, those accounts are going to start dropping like flies.

Does anyone know the actual prices they're asking for the premium seats? Just curious.
Also, I thought the side with the benches (West I guess) was completely "premium" seating. That's BS IMO but they're selling premium seats on the East side too? Good luck getting humans not corporations to pay big bucks to watch the dogshit we had to sit through Sunday. IDC how nice the stadium is, that will wear off fast.

I believe the only areas of the lower level that are not premium are behind the goals and in the corners.

They are actually doing surprisingly well with the premium sales. Extremely well on the West End, decently well on the East End. They may need to do a little bit of incentivizing to completely sell out the lower end of the premiums, but they will get there or close to it.
